He's not even playing as a Pirlo, that IS the problem! Bro has owned that spot now, but Borja was never given the chance, bar from one friendly where he dominated.

I will never fault this player for his obvious failure, since no one seems to grasp his natural position. In my eyes, he's Bro's sub. He's not a Baggio who we tried to make Pirlo be. He's a Pirlo. A Xavi. A Guardiola.

Unbeveliable that no coach has realised this.

Great, no one wants to hear your mindless defending and posting of your YouTube videos.

Unless you can come up with a constructive argument of course.

Well, Vecino was injured to the only Borja was the only option we had to replace Rafinha who was obviously exhausted.

Regardless of how he played, he's almost a lock to take Brozovic's spot next week. I think Borja's best performances this season have come as an deep lying play maker, so hopefully he puts a good shift in against Atalanta.

As someone pointed out, even if his decline was something to take into account, right now it looks like he's transitioning very fast from Borja Valero to Borja Vianello*.
If there's a time for him to get a "second breath" in the season, it's now or never.

I don't think it's helpful to use players as a comparison. I don't even know what point you're trying to make when you talk about Baggio's and Pirlo's.

Valero is a CM. He's obviously got some good ball retention with his control and short passing. He'll contribute to the fluidity of a possession-based team as he did at Fiorentina under Montella and Sousa. And that's practically it. He honestly wasn't too bad when starting as AM during the first half of the season and to be fair to Spalletti, Brozovic and Gagliardini have had poor seasons until very, very recently. The problem is that Valero is not the tip of the spear to play close to goal and constantly produce killer balls forward or shoot. That said, neither are any of our midfielders. Part of the reason so much of the forum has been advocating for a 433 is due to a lack of an AM. But it seems Spalletti can be as stubborn as Mancini regarding some things.

I'm not even going to talk about Valero's horrendous stamina but it seems that as he's aging, his already-blunt offense is just getting duller and duller. As many stated, his last season at Fiorentina was easily his weakest - and that is of course when we bought him.

I hate watching him too even though I also fully understand it's not his fault in particular. However, when things are going badly (which they frequently do at this club) there's nothing more frustrating than watching an impotent player with their passenger football. The comparison that I keep coming to is a dad playing football with his small children at the park. If we're going to play a 4231 with a clear AM, then that AM needs to be a dominant and influential player, like Nainggolan was last season at Roma - a driving force. Instead, we have Valero who plays as if he just wants to gently kick a ball around with his kids.

I think the comparison was to describe what kind of a player Valero is,

Borja is a player more suited as a CM, like Banega, Riquelme, Pirlo as apposed to a classic AM like Pablo Aimar / Bagio for example. Thing is when these players [CMs] are slotted as an AM they should act more as attacking midfielders than CMs, which brings home your point that when Borja plays as AM he acts as a CM.

We want you to go forward, shoot, make through balls forward or to the wings, not play diagonally or drop back and leave the final 3rd in the center empty, thats why our attacks always end up on the wings. Nainggolan is different because he has the characteristics to play as a CM or an AM, he is more of a hybrid. [this year he has become a lot worse though as a player], Brozovic for ex falls into that category when on form.

don't deny you were basically begging for someone to ask this. :yao: i had no idea and i fell for it.

cool though. i met a guy a couple of years ago who played for a Serie A team (can't tell which for privacy reasons) but got injured and had to give up the dream.

as for myself, i played some football as a defender when i was a kid but nothing serious, lots of fun but got boring for me when it was time to move to the next step, i didn't like the training.

I don't think it's that rare to find people who have played for teams at some level. Maybe past the age of 15 or 16 would make the list much slimmer. I stopped at 15, but I've been sort of running a sports club [8 different sports teams] for a few years so I went to the other side. I'm guessing many here have played at some team until they were 14-15.

ok ok calm your man titties, we love you anyways

Speaking on topic, I disliked the guy ever since before it even became an official transfer. Same "can't stand him" reasons some other people have.

all in all, it's spalletti who in the end didn't like him that much. i mean, he's a bencher now, he only was a starter last time because spalletti wanted to give rafinha some rest.
