So, we are almost at page 5 and it only July. Call me crazy, but this is promising :D When FIF b*ch so much about a player, he turns out at least good.

Mudingayi, Kuzmanović, Melo, Hernanes, Kharja ...? God, that's a real horror show of midfielders.

But I don't think there is so much bitching about Valero. Looking at the poll: Most FIF user expect him to turn out a good transfer.

Which going by past result means he will flop.

Smart players rarely fail. It's those who do moves without passing it to their brain cells but straight to their legs are almost guaranteed to fail. We've had many of those like Melo and Kondogbia, but Valero isn't one of them.

The only concern with Valero is his age. If he's physically able to keep up then he's all good.

I appreciate your opinions and mostly agree with you but the thing is he is right at the point where the wheels are falling of him.

Think 12 months time we will have a 33,5 year old with 2 years left of a 3 mil/year contract.

Sounds much like a Palacio case(where he plumeted suddenly).

Palacios game was more based around his speed and explosiveness while borja never was fast or explosive. His main traits always were his positioning, his passing and his tactical understanding of the game which usually does not detoriate that fast.
He s gonna get worse but i dont think it will happen as fast as it happened with palacio.

Valero has had a transformative effect on the MF, IMO, and is a huge part of why Joao Mario is playing so well this preseason.

He's totally different player from Banega, and seems like a far better fit in this squad and system.

How can you not like a player like him?
Yes, he's not young, he's not fast, but he's a footballing brain.
I'm confident he will prove himself a good addition to our team.

KDog: "Valero? He’s a very good player, it’s easy to play with him. He’s always looking for the ball and helping his teammates. It’s always a pleasure to play with someone like him."

------------------------------------

Without getting too ahead of myself here *ahem* I do think people are starting to recognize the value he can bring to the MF. Another editorial (link) referred to him as "like a metronome" in terms of his ability to stabilize the side and dictate pace of play.

In my view, these attributes are already showing in his first 4 matches. Not saying he's the next Pirlo, but (barring injury) it seems unlikely that Inter will regret paying a mere €7m for him. To all the haters, be prepared to read more quotes like these in the coming weeks (and hopefully months).

I could play in the midfield with this guy and he would make ME look serviceable. Class.

He certainly didn't shy away from physical contact today... great timing in his tackles.

Borja's thought on preseason so far
________________________

“It’s a certainly positive pre-season and we hope to continue like this,” the Spaniard told Mediaset Premium.

This afternoon the Nerazzurri beat Chelsea 2-1 with goals from Stevan Jovetic and Ivan Perisic.

“Playing against some of the best sides and putting in good performances is significant, but we must continue working as if nothing happened.

“From the first moment I arrived, I was clearly told what my role would be at Inter and I’m trying to do my best. We are working well, even if we haven’t had much time to concentrate on the concepts of play during daily training sessions.”

Borja Valero was asked how far Inter can go this season.

“We set ourselves no limits, we’ll see where we are at the end of the year.”

Not to downplay his performance, but I think the shitshow in the last 15-20 minutes was more due to momentum shift after being dumbfounded by that own goal and Chelsea finally smelling blood which came from wound we (or Kondogbia) inflicted ourselves.
I already expected his ability to dictate play and keep possession, but I am more impressed by his defensive contribution. Gags/Kondogbia with him as a midfield duo does seem to be a potentially reliable one.

Had my doubts about him and they look to be proven wrong in both his commitment to the club and his longevity here, can see him being a proper star in our midfield and dare i say it, our pogba

:awyeah: hopefully he would stay injury free whole season, I'm cringe every time somebody whacked him.
