You would think with such statistics medel is such a great player but in reality he the weaskest link in the midfield sure he can intercept but he doesn't know what to do with the ball (backward passes that slow the tempo when the opposite is required) He doesn't run into open space in the middle when he should do that look at how mario does it. Sure medel is a good player but its useless to play him in the midfield, he's a far better center back. He's very one dimensional.

leaving Medel on the bench means no defensive character in midfield.. about Medel's inabilities going forward and his backward pass, I think he was instructed by De Boer to play like that, his job is to intercept and quickly pass it before he get caught because he's not comfortable on the ball. remember what happen to K-Dog when he was told to play it simple and he fucked it up. also I liked how Medel was playing right now, expecting him to be more involved in attacks it's not a good idea imo..he ain't Cambiasso , Pirlo , Toure, or Xavi, he is Medel..

Maybe de Boer noticed liked what he watched from the EL game with Southampton, in the end he's the one being paid to decide who plays and who gets benched, so there's nothing we can do there

I'd still like to see Icardi on the bench for Eder as a CF, or Jovetic, to see us actually having an attack that doesn't get interrupted by someone who wants every ball on his feet just to score

Without Medel I would be worried about our midfield just being overrun. Medel is pretty much the only one with some grinta. Also his passing is not as bad as some of you say - he does play good long balls out to the wing a fair bit.

Eder though... I guess he's being played out of position, but the guy can't score for sh$$.
