The proble is that at least here in Egypt, Zamalek are rebuilding themselves after a 4 year tophyless streak with only 1 Egyptian Cup victory in 2007. They are building a new squad with fresh talents and want to regain domestic titles and African Championships. That's why Shika is being held on to dearly, Amr Zaki and now the return of Mido only reaffirmes their ambitions, add to that Hazem Emam Jr., Ahmed El Meghany and such and Zamalek loom like they want to regain power.

Al Ahly are constantly in the African and European scene and are also rebuilding their squad under a new coach, an Egyptian one for the first time in 19 years, so that's why these teams don't want to lose their players.

Good point. But it's possible that he won't be star for many seasons in Egypt so why not promote Egyptian football in Europe by letting him play there?

Egyptian clubs have a heavy lift on their shoulders and that is to be on top level on the local AND continental stage. That's why Trika never went to Getafe, Reading, Birmingham, etc... That's why Abd Allah Said is still in Ismaily, that's why Amr Zaki's price tag is being inflated by Zamalek and the same with Shikabala. That's why El Mohamady is taking so long to go to England. Egyptian clubs have their big ambitions to grow on a local and continental stage and won't let players go.

For promotion, well I guess that relies on the internationals of the National Team and the clubs playing abroad such as Ahly and Zamalek in international firendlies and/or competitions such as the Club World Cup, that's not enough I know, but for now that's the focus. To go to Europe, Egyptians show they have what it takes to play on the top level, but the problem is disciple and homesickness, that's Egyptians' main handicap, in everything, not just football.
