Six years since you're gone, seventy you would be celebrating today.
I cannot even remember my first memory of you, nor can I convey my first feeling of you. They say, dear Cipe, you were not half as serious as you looked. They also say that you loved to sing, yet did it in privacy. That you were slow to anger but quick to commit. That you looked upon your own mistakes with a smile.
Yes. There it is. The first thing I think when I see any photo featuring you is "Englishman in New York". That´s the song I hum whenever you cross my memory, and believe me, Giacinto: you´ve been a comfort so many times in this grim soccer of today.
Takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile,
be yourself, no matter what they say...
And what a man you were, Giacintone Magno, Garrone, Cipelletti. It all was down to Herrera, a mix-up for the man who spoke soccer in four languages and mixed both, and when he saw that tower you were, he called you Cipelletti.
In the years where a dark colored player is booed, what would Jair say, dear Cipe? You received him with a warmness and affection that, in those years when "colored" was "different" and "dangerous", few could imagine. Only three played in Serie A back then, and when he came to Inter, Jair did't have a home to settle upon arrival. You jumped up and offered, you opened your house's doors wide for him.
You didn't see eye to eye with many of your teammates, still you never spoke ill of others. Even with the one you resembled the least, that pesky Sandrino Mazzola. I could say loads of things that crossed between you two... when you scored and he didn't... when you both were managers... the fact you were from a small place in Lombardy not far away from his father´s birthplace (and you shared Valentino's orderly and quiet fashion, while he was much more outspoken and rebellious) the Fabbri times, when you opposed him and Sandro stayed wayward neutral... So many things could be said, couldn't they?
I know you'd simply scroll your head and say a handful of pretty things, and that´s the beauty: not from tongue out. You really were that way.
I mix present and past, were and are, because you are not someone who just passed, donned the colors and saluted. You played your last season in so much pain: your back was injured, still you wanted to make it to the 1978 World Cup, but when it was clear you wouldn't make it, you gave way for young Cabrini.
You, no other, inspired the Beppe Baresis, the Riccardo Ferris, the Beppe Bergomis, the Javier Zanettis, a lineage of blue (and black) blood so thick and engraved, no one may ever discuss it. Even when expelled, you were surrounded by applause. Applause at the beginning and at the end. Shy as you were with all this unexpected fame, you may now be looking upon the Livornese Picchi with a sort of shame: what did I do to be so loved?
You were the way you were, Cipe, that way and no other. Your rare, solar smiles, in a serious boy´s face. The fact you marked so clean and polite, and when you stretched your hand to a rival you meant peace, not harm. You meant it to be temporary rivalry, and after the game, no hard feelings.
Still, you loved the Biscione with a passion. Dapper and calm, I remember your first game as manager in charge of accompaning the squad. Calm, but with fire in your eyes. So collected yet so firm. Like a living oak, larger than life, wider than our fears, always with that gaze that seemed distracted and far-away-looking, that seemed to soar over our mere worldly matters.
You left us your legacy of correctness and chivalry, your wonderful, composed family, and a deep sorrow in our hearts. You may be departed, but left the joy of your presence in our hearts. From Facchetti to Cipelletti, you carved a path to inmortality with your values and seriousness. Ciao Cipe: Grazie ancora, 70 di questi anni...

Anyone have an idea how do members of Facchetti family feel abou Moratti? Am I the only deeply disturbed by the fact that Moratti put the entire blame concerning Inter phone calls during Calciopoli on Facchetti who couldn't defend himself?

Why am I not surprised?
Whatever man, the fact is that Moratti saved his ass partially by claming Facchetti was making those phone calles on his own without Moratti giving instructions.
Given the fact that Facchetti is a huge legend and on top of that demised says it all about Moratti's action.
I am not even trying to discuss the very content of the phone calls that Facchetti made because I'm more than convinced that they weren't anything like Moggi's wrongdoings.
What I am trying to find out here is why the fuck did Moratti threw a dead man under the bus as soon as it became hairy?

Forum Supporter10 years of FIFDid I miss something here? If you wanna put up something like this, you should really put up your source. I never read anything about Moratti blamed Facchetti. I even remember that Facchetti photo on inter.it was put up on the site to acknowledge his innocence. Giacinto's son still attended inter invitation on many occassions.
If Juve blamed or accused Facchetti then it is all over media. Moratti just didn't defend Facchetti and I can understand why. Why did he need to defend something that Facchetti didn't do at all, there was nothing to defend.
