Mancini names squad for Catania trip

Goalkeepers: 1 Francesco Toldo, 12 Julio Cesar, 22 Paolo Orlandoni.

Defenders: 2 Ivan Ramiro Cordoba, 4 Javier Zanetti, 6 Maxwell, 16 Nicolas Burdisso, 23 Marco Materazzi, 24 Nelson Rivas, 26 Cristian Chivu.

Midfielders: 11 Luis Jimenez, 19 Esteban Cambiasso, 21 Solari, 28 Maniche, 30 Pelé.

Strikers: 8 Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 9 Julio Ricardo Cruz, 18 Hernan Crespo, 29 David Suazo.

-------------------------------------------------

Oh wow...neither Deki nor Figo. Seems like Mancini want to make sure all important players are completely fit for the Pool.

My guess would be:

JC
Il Capitano-Ivan-Marco-Maxwell
Chuchu-Maniche-Chivu
Jimi
Cruz-Ibra

Crespo needs to get some minutes in his legs. We need him for the Liverpool game. Remember he scored two goals against them a few years back ;)

I wouldn't be completely surprised if Mancio opts for 4-3-3, I'm hoping for a 4-3-1-2 though.

Why rest Ibra in this difficult game, makes no sense to me. If he needs to be rested he should be so on saturday when we play livorno at home, which is inarguable a much easier game than the one today.

I agree, no sense resting Ibra today.

I just hope we dominate and finish the match with 11 men.

INTER (4-3-1-2): 12 Julio Cesar; 16 Burdisso, 2 Cordoba, 23 Materazzi, 6 Maxwell; 4 Zanetti, 19 Cambiasso, 26 Chivu; 11 Jimenez; 8 Ibrahimovc, 9 Cruz.

In panchina: 1 Toldo, 24 Rivas, 21 Solari, 28 Maniche, 30 Pelè, 18 Crespo, 29 Suazo.

Good lineup. The only thing I don't like about it is Burdisso, but other then that it's A Ok.

This is a really boring game, really boring.

No chances, nothing. This doesn't look good. The midfield seems to be lost.

We played decent the first fifteen minutes but after that we started sending more and more longballs, and now it seems to be the only thing we do, and needless to say it's not working very well.

They are rushing our attackers whenever they get the ball. Jimenez was vital, when he was playing we were playing well. Mancio probably should have converted to a 4-3-3 when Jimegol was taken off. Bringing in Suazo would have atleast created time and space for Ibra/Cruz.

We need some runs from El Capitano from our midfield line which is very very defensive.

I just hate to be right.

I was writing about us playing bad since the new year, but hey. Everybody was just happy we're winning. Well I'm too, but I like to be realist also.

Is today some contest I'm not aware of? Who can pass the higher and over the longest distance ball or something?

Check this:

In the first half we made 0 shots on goal. ZERO.

We are playing worse and worse every week.

And, some people said we're okay without a playmaker behind the strikers :p
You go figure.

WE ARE SLOW.
WE ARE PREDICTIBLE.
WE CAN'T EXCHANGE 5 PASSES WITHOUT SENDING A LONG BALL.

I know that no team in the world can play perfect the whole season, but man, WTF?!!!

Well, its our habit to play 2nd half really good and defensively in first. You will see, we're going to play really well this half.

Horrible, just horrible. One of the worst game I've seen this season.

Cambiasso, Chivu, Zanetti and Pele. I can't explain how could such midfielders play at the same time. What are we playing? 4-4-2? 4-3-1-2? Chivu as a left midfielder? Cambiasso behind the strikers? I just don't know what's going on there.

Mancini should do something, and I know he will.

Soon as Jimenez left (another injury. yay) our midfield looked lost. I've seen Pele touch the ball maybe... twice since he came on. Catania started to press alot more for the last 20 minutes and our entire "attack" consisted of long-balls from Matrix to either Cruz or Ibra, the later of which is looking extremely frustrated.

Nothing different from the first couple games of 2008, Coppa Italia games excluded. This team and coach seem devoid of ideas and it's showing.

BTW, fantastic atmosphere in Catania.

Jimenezs injury is costing us dearly. Currently there is no creativity in the midfield and on top of that there seems to be a huge gap between our midfielders and forwards. It’s not looking good at all.
Also looking at the bench, there doesn’t seem to be much if anything that Mancini can do in terms of adding a bit of flavour to our game. We have way too many creative/key players out due to injuries. Based on the first half the only way we can win this one is either a defensive blunder from Catania or a bit of magic from Ibra or someone else.

Certainly things aren’t looking good prior to the Liverpool game…
