As I watch Conte hug Marotta, I wonder where are the lads here who were convinced Conte will quit coz of their "rift"? As I suspected, the "rift" was just media made up BS.

Great game. Perfect match set up by Conte, Shaktar never got a sniff in the game with all their Brasilians. Can't fault anyone today, we played as an unit. Defended as one, attacked as one. We are finally a team, well disciplined where everyone works for each other. Whenever we lose the ball, Inter are back in shape within seconds.

So good to see Inter playing like this in Europe. And now in an European final!!! We had the best defence in Serie A this season, the best defence in the EL, and we have broken our all time record for goals scored in a season. We are building something beautiful.
Fantastic post!

When we got Marotta and Conte, I was so happy at the time, cause I knew good times are coming to Inter again. Had to wait a bit for the proof but finally it's here. I'm so glad and happy it materialized as football is still sport and probability does not mean certainty. All the right decisions. Getting rid of icardi, "no pazza anymore", getting some players the coach wanted.

It will get only better next season once Conte gets a few more of the players he needs :)

Sorry about not being more buoyant about it, but I was already at this stage when we got Marotta and Conte ;). This is just materializing that potential. Can't wait for next season with Hakimi, Tonali, Kumbula, maybe Kostic?

Conte and marotta, hug but conte doesn't look him in the eye.
Off topic, has anyone seen the parody Donald j agnelli twitter page? It's fucking hilarious. He called marotta a cyclops

Anyway. Brehme you probably will know this or be able to find it somehow. Was it after our first year with mourinho that tuttosport laughed at us for being eliminated from UCL and said we need juve the pride of Italy or some shit to save Italy in Europe? Fuckers

I have to say that having Godin instead of Skriniar has made a massive difference in how well we are defending. Night and day.

It's just like everything clicked recently, when Conte said "to hell with this 3-4-1-2 experiment" and went back to his fav 352 with Brozo as regista and Godin on the side of the 3 instead of Skriniar.

Godin is a true champion to work so hard at this age and manage to adapt to completely new formation. He has been amazing. Hats off to the dude.

However, I wouldn't extrapolate this form to "we have found the magic formula" level just yet. Its just that we are hitting a pocket of form, things are momentarily clicking, luckily for us at the right time for EL. But we have hit such pockets of form before, like when Brozo-Sensi-Barella were lighting things up earlier this season. We will still need significant upgrades to consistently be around this level next season.

Also, I wouldn't write off Skriniar just yet. If Godin can do this, maybe Skriniar can as well. Though it is more and more looking like we should accept a big offer if it comes our way for Skriniar, I would be quite happy if he stays. Godin & D'Ambrosio's form just means that we may not need a new CB (unless Skriniar is sold), and can focus our transfer spend on a top midfielder, LWB and vice-Lukaku.

That twitter page is comedy gold. Absolutely nails it. Bald Tony, El Gordo Higuain, Black Lungs Sarri, Mini Messi etc.

I believe this might be the Tuttosport page Harpsabu was referring to, from March, 2009, after we got knocked out at the round of 16 by man utd: "Special zero, with Mourinho nothing changes".

Great match tonight, the team is organized and every player knows exactly what to do. It's also important that we are in good shape. And lautaro seems to finally be again what he was in the first half of the season.

Can't wait for the final.

Excellent game by Inter, I feel that a corner has been overturned with this team. Next season should be fun.

4.5mil for coming 2nd, 8.5 for coming first, and all the previous rounds add as well

if we win, we'll get something like:

8.5m winning
+
2.4m semi final
+
1.5m quarters
+
1.1m round 16

thats like 15m already.

not including sponsorship or tv revenue money... shame we dont get any gate receipts for this run because we'd sell out the stadium...

the big win, tbh, is coming pot 1 for the CL next year and making it at least *likely* that we progress out of the group stage

Ya but you can't count the money obtained from qualifying those stages as we would get them regardless. So the prize for winning is really 8.5m

But yea pot 1 and finally a trophy after a decade or so is the real gold

Didn’t someone say, few days ago or so, that if we reach the final, we’d be in pot 2?

No. We can't be in pot 2. Win EL = pot 1. Lose = pot 3.

That was a fucking performance right there. Didn’t care much for Rom’s mini temper tantrums in the 1st half (to be fair there was some awful misplaced passes by our midfielders) but he looked more focused in the 2nd half. And that second goal was a beauty. For such a big guy, he has a wicked burst of pace. Lautaro back to his best after a rough spell too.

Conte with a masterclass in this one. Shakhtar barely threatened and our team defending was on point. Everyone is mostly on the same page right now and it’s a lovely thing to witness. Now let’s go get that 4th EL/UEFA Cup

Yesterday we played the best game in the season i think! Tactically perfect, Conte prepared the match so perfectly! Shaktar players coudn't do nothing against us!

Lautaro finally played like he can, in a very top player way! Lukaku was out of the match until the end, but his second goal was fantastic!!

Finally, i think that Barella is really brilliant! Actually i think he is out best midfielder at the moment!

It was a really poor game until we secured the result. The first half was especially bad watching. Part of that was our horrendous passing and part of it was Shakhtar not willing to engage us. We certainly held our defensive shape very well and didn’t give them much space but even still, I was surprised at their lack of intent. Made for a weird contest at times.

We did better to raise the tempo in the first 15 mins of the 2nd half but I felt we labored too much due to our own errors. We need to improve in this regard. Better opponents will punish us (and already have) if we can’t find that second goal to kill off the game.

That delicate period in between taking a 1-goal lead, and buying some security with a 2nd goal, is crucial and often precarious for us. How many times have we scored early, then been shit or wasteful, then made to pay? I don't need to remind everyone of the obscene number of points we've dropped from a winning position.

Just last week, Havertz had a very dangerous chance to equalise at 2-1. Today, their one good chance came while the score was 1-0, after a period where we were starting to get a bit sloppy. And what a fucking ludicrous chance it was. In a hilarious moment, my commentator said, and I directly quote: "Totally isolated in the middle, Junior Moraes. Look at the number of blue and black shirts back there. Three, six, eight against one. You're not going to score like that..." Literally two seconds later, the guy gets a fucking free header 1 meter away from Handanovic. Unbelievable.

All that said though, we were ruthless once we got the fatal 2nd goal. Tactical battle aside, this was a game of wits and we won it convincingly. We mentally beat them down more than anything. Once D'Ambrosio scored, they were wounded and didn't have the tactics to counter us nor the mental fortitude to mount any kind of comeback. We smelled blood in the water and went in for the kill - not dissimilar to Bayern Munich the other day. That's the kind of ruthlessness we need on a more regular basis. When your opponent is hurt, don't give them time to recover. Finish the job and dispatch them.

A few months back, I commented that we often played with the arrogance of champions, minus the mentality. I said this after one of our countless games where we took the lead, complacently squandered chances to kill the game, then conceded and dropped points. We seem to have mentally improved in recent matches, and that's obviously very pleasing to see.

Finally, you'd have to give MOTM to Toro, but I just want to say Godin is a hero. I stand by my opinion of Skriniar, which is that he must stay, and selling him would be a disgrace. But right now, Godin is very rightfully keeping Skriniar on the bench.

A hug doesn't mean much tbh. Players hug each other all the time during celebrations, doesn't mean it's one big happy family. I still wait for the final to be finished before making judgements about Conte's situation at Inter. But I still give a fair shot he might leave Inter after the Europa League final. Nobody wants to disrupt the club in this important moment, so even if there are rifts they've kept it behind the scenes.

I totally agree with Uni. The 5-0 shows our quality, but not how we played for most of the match. Us losing focus after scoring first is what made us crash out of CL too.

Right now I wonder how much of that is owed to fatigue, since we really played a lot of matches in a short time period, with players like Lukaku playing most of the games until the end.

Sevilla is sly enough to capitulize on us not being focused like they did against United, but it's our defence that has been close to perfect last few games. Stuff of champions, they have to believe we can win it now.
