personally, i'm against retiring the numbers, i find it silly. it's not a big deal for the number 4 as it isn't so symbolic as the number 10, but still, i don't see why a child shouldn't be able to dream of wearing that shirt.
tbh, i agree with this. Imagine in 100 years time, we've retired 1-15 and now our goalkeeper plays with 16
I reckon the only good reason to retire a shirt is if a player dies on the pitch to be honest. Something I hope we never have to do.
The way football is going, one club men are becoming an endangered species. I see less and less likelihood of retiring shirts in the future.
But even if we assuming that we retire shirts at the same rate, we have retired 2 shirts in over 100 years of history. It will take 700 more years to retire 1-15 at this rate. I can live with that. Its better than seeing Candreva play with No 4 behind his back.
