Spain completely shooting themselves in the foot here. For those OTL the spanish coach has moved to Madrid and was originally not going to be announced until after the WC. Unfortunately for Spain, non-madrid players found out about the deal and so the FA forced Madrid to announce the deal to limit unrest. Now the president is furious that the coach left and has been threatening to fire the coach before their first game vs Portugal. Press conference at 11.30

Julen Lopetegui sacked as Spain manager after accepting Real Madrid job

Julen Lopetegui has been removed as Spain manager a day after it emerged that he had agreed to take over at Real Madrid after the World Cup.

Lopetegui has signed a three-year deal to succeed Zinedine Zidane with the Champions League holders and it was decided that in the circumstances it was inappropriate for him to continue with Spain.

The Spanish Football Association president, Luis Rubiales, was supposed to be at Fifa’s congress in Moscow on Wednesday but flew to Spain’s training base late on Tuesday night to deal with the matter.

“We have been forced to dispense with the national coach. We wish him the greatest of luck,” said Rubiales.

“The negotiations have occurred without any information to the Spanish FA and we were informed just five minutes before the press release. There’s a way to act that needs to be fulfilled.”

Spain play their first Group B match against Portugal on Friday evening.

According to Sky Italia, Quique Setién, Real Betis coach, is the favourite to replace him.

Gong show. Hopefully for the rest of the field it has the same effect on them as Scolari announced as Chelsea boss had on Portugal in 2008.

I'm personally not a fan of a tournament in 2-3 countries.

People complained about the 2020 Euros being all over Europe but this is over an even larger area. And tickets are an average of $430 which is insane

Aaand of course it goes to 3 friggin' countries. Lmao I hope they arrange something for fans traveling between those three countries because that's gonna be one insanely expensive joke, not to mention the jetlag players might have when they gotta fly half a day from one freaking continent to another and back again, just to get to their next matches. So fucking stupid.
But hey these countries combined offered a much larger sack of cash than Morocco and that's what counts for scummy fifa in the end, right? Because adding 50 million to the 324091309 million they've already got is so much better than adding 10 million to their 324091309 million. Fucking joke.

Also what the fuck is Spain thinking? Their chances were so good, this coach has never lost a game with them and now they make this ridiculous move... I suppose they don't want to win anymore! Van Gaal announced he would be coaching ManU after the WC '14 right before it started - he wasn't fired and look what he brought, probably the best run/coaching in his career. Coach can't be happy or clear about his upcoming career stuff anymore?? Astoundingly stupid dick move, but hey that's what we have the Spanish for.

Why would you give a World Cup to a country that has no stadiums in match-ready condition, when you have another bid that has over 20 stadiums ready to go? Look at the Qatar disaster. This was a no-brainer.

Because match-ready stadiums are erected faster than Pimpin's cock, because it saves fans thousands upon thousands of bucks in traveling and ticket costs, because it also saves players many hours of traveling and keeps them healthier and more fit, literally resulting in more attractive games? Morocco is also in no way like Qatar... It would have put them on the map too. Stupid, ridiculous and predictable decision imo.

Not to mention how the USA had a WC relatively short time ago and it's still the country that manages to taint the sport by naming it soccer.
