Maybe a bit odd but some might remember him from his goalscoring days at mid to lower level clubs of Serie A of yester year.

He was capocannoniere in Serie C,B and in A at age 35 at a weak team(Piacenza).Iremember him being a beast in front of goal late in his career. His stats are also excellent.
After being done with pro football he still played at amateur level well into his 40's and was still banging them in(for instnace at 42 he was still scoring 16 in 14 matches at amateur level).

I know he got a trial or soemthing to that with Milan but only played 1 match for them.

So why didn't Hubner get his big chance?

probably because at that time Serie A was the most competitive league in the world with all top players. Today probably Hubner would have a chance in a "big" italian team, that today are inferior also to the Portugal teams...

Yeah Serie A was big back then but still his top moment at Perugia? And also Brescia?

Why didn't Milan ever keep him?

I understand he was also a bit boemic,he as filmed smoking while being on the bench at Brescia.

not sure, in early 2000 I guess.
I read on local newspaper here which always quoted from italian newspaper
and here article about that too..

Over the course of his career he had had trials with both Milan and Inter but they did not lead to anything. When asked why he never moved to a big club, Hübner was typically humble. “I’m not complaining: as a young man I was a blacksmith and worked with aluminum, who would have guessed I could get to do a career like that? I’m very happy with that.” A journeyman who never stuck around at one club for too long, Hübner deserves to be remembered as one of the great domestic Italian strikers who kept on playing for his love of the game.
