Yeah I've been in shock/denial since yesterday mate, I wrote the following this morning:1919 said:Frisko has been really silent-like ... i miss his views on the game, very unlike him !!!
About 12 hours after the game, I finally find the strenght to put down my thoughts on yesterday's disaster.
After the anger and bitter disappointment, now it's time to deal with this "did that really happen?" feeling, so typical of the day after a major screw-up.
And boy, didn't they screw up last night!
Reading this thread I can see Mancini getting most of the blame, and no, I'm not going to stick up for him, don't worry.
Mancini phucked up big time. In my view, his fatal mistakes were:
1) Not calling up Solari, and not playing him for at least 45 minutes in place of Figo who was clearly not fit to play the whole game.
2) Playing the ghost of Adriano for freakin 90 minutes, instead of taking him out and put Cruz on at half time.
3) Not giving Pizarro a chance at least for a portion of the 2nd half.
I don't think playing Mihajlovic was a major mistake, he gave Zanetti a chance to go forward, and God knows Zanetti was the only guy yesterday who seemed to be able to dribble and cause any danger. If Mihajlovic scored with that free kick, we would be talking very differently today.
What I don't agree with many of you is blaming ONLY Mancini, because almost all of our players screwed up badly last night.
I mean, Cambiasso SUCKED. Now, how many times did you get to say that in the last 18 months? Not many. Cuchu didn't win back one single ball and he played a good part in our midfield getting owned by Riquelme.
Veron was awful. Adriano and Martins were ghosts, absolutely terrible. Recoba did a bit of pressing but his free kicks were piss poor and he never got into the game.
I thought Materazzi played very well with many good tackles inside the box, but then he wasted it all with that moronic elbow.
Capitano was ok, Samuel was ok, Cordoba not a disaster. Toldone was our hero, in Valencia form, the only player we could be proud of last night.
It is undeniable that Villareal deserved to go through.
Now guys, the day after, with cooler minds, we must do our part and don't screw up ourselves.
If we want to win, we need to learn how to lose. And too many times in the last 10 years or so, our reaction to defeat is asking for a revolution. Get a new coach, get new players.
Look at Gobbi against Arsenal, they were awful, but you wouldn't hear a gobbo fan asking for Capello to be sacked or Zlatan to be sold. We gotta learn from our mistakes. As Han said, consistency is the key.
Now I'm not gonna say it'll be easy. After all we might find ourselves at the end of next year with a room full of Coppa Italia trophies while Milan and Gobbi are losing count of their scudetti and Champions League wins.
But we must hold on and try it again next year with Mancini and the same core of players. After all, it doesn't take much to turn shit into gold in football. If we had a striker in top form during the last 7 days, we would have gone through, playing badly and maybe without deserving it, but we would have.
How many times did Inzaghi or Trezeguet save Ancelotti and Capello's asses after they played like crap this season?
And look at the table. Think at Samuel's 2nd season, with him and our defence settled.
It's very hard even for me now to keep believing in Mancini, Adriano, Martins and company, but I really want to and I know that's the best way forward for Inter.
Come on! Let's try it.
