Barcelona does not gamble that way. They have a youth system that works and has produced amazing talent, they know when that can translate into the first team and they're very careful not to give that player a different role. I like to think of Bojan Krkic as a great case study here. The kid was an immense talent, but because his role was already saturated, he had to play something else which he wasn't comfortable with. That didn't go well, he moved to other teams that play completely different and he looked like a fish outside of water. There's a reason why his best season was his first professional one. After that, his role became different, they got other players and Guardiola had other ideas. If he had continued to play on that trajectory, he'd probably be hailed as one of the best players that team had during the previous decade. Instead, he's a kid with loads of talent that didn't impress at Roma, Stoke and Ajax and started declining from his 21st birthday. Not the kid's fault by any chance.
Who else is like that? We're seeing the same thing take place with Ansu Fati. Started as an extremely promising 16 year old and now he's a 21 year old bench warmer at Brighton that's looking for a new team. Lamine Yamal managed to get established but we cannot tell if something similar will happen to him. I hope not for his sake, but that means that Barcelona needs to remain focused on graning him a starting spot for that role he excels at.

Club management (board) plays an important role because while the prevailing club philosophy & fundamentals of La Masia is to develop youth talent in a particular manner, more or less each board can tweak or even marginalize it’s value to the club. Bartomeu for example treated many like commodities

I agree that Bojan is a great case study but a missing aspect to this is how Pep wanted him to go back to the B team when his quality was not there and refused - its also that balance of not rushing them too quickly or applying the level of pressure that will make it difficult to adapt like most professionals all do. Moriba more recently was valued and was on the ascendency but rushed his progress wanting bigger wages & role and was sold - years later still trying to recapture his promising form as a youth player at Barca breaking into first team.

I follow Barca’s youth football passionately and there are countless cautionary tales, countless just missed talents or overhyped starlings but that’s also because the club churns out talent like no other academy. The FIFA ban on recruiting youth kids like Take left a gap but there’s always a local kid who rises to prominence and invariably their path is visible from day one. Kids like Ansu, Lamal, Gavi & Messi were clear as day upon their arrival at every youth level - it’s rare at Barca for a kid to dominate in this fashion and then tank at the senior level if injuries or professionalism don’t derail it

What separates youth talents, for me, is the indefinable, the creative spark that evokes joy on the pitch. When you see it in a player who not only is capable of it but makes the right decision the majority of the time (irrespective of the level of pressure) at 16 you have to accept that it is a phenomena - a rarity. There’s no question that barring injury Lamine Yamal is going to define an era - he has that quality to his game that only the game’s greatest possessed….and he’s just 16, imagine what that will look like in a few years much less a decade

His left foot too, I am mesmerized by how special it is. There’s no ‘next Messi’ but the first Lamine is going make history, I am certain of it

I like this part, Carboni fits the bill tbh, that is also why it is so hard to label him as any certain role and box him in that.

I mean if him and Hakan are sacrificed and we can build a team that Inzaghi wants that can be around for a while that is worth doing. If Carboni isnt going to be given a chance till we get a new coach(will have to be 2 really bad years for our management to sack Inzaghi). Why loan Carboni out for 2 seasons when we can get 30m now and make the club better.

Tho selling him to get that random Genoa player fk that.

Firstly, Inzaghi wants Hakan to stay.
Secondly, I doubt Inter can sell Carboni for 30-35M right now - otherwise he would be already gone.

Latest rumour is that River Plate want him on a 18 months loan deal with option to buy included. He reportedly accepted the destination, I just don't know what's the buying option worth.

Might actually be better for his development than eating bench in Italy.

It's not him, it's his big brother Franco Carboni, who's not just rumored to River Plate, but close to moving there as deal is almost done.

Yepp, I was just about to edit my post, you're so fast - 12 minutes to correct me 😅

Back on topic: according to GdS, Valentin wants a raise.

The Argentine would expect an increase in his €800,000 net per season wages to reflect his form (and raise in value).

Very surprised on the decision by Mascherano to not call him for the Olympics team.
You would think that would be the perfect environment for Carboni to show if he is really worth the hype or not

It's better for us he's not going there. He needs a good pre-season wherever he is during that time. Needs the integration to the squad, get along with the team and specially with the coach. He's gonna be a new player wherever he ends up at. Even at Monza since they switched from Palladino to Nesta.

Nice! We can (almost) buy a shite goalkeeper for that amount!😂

I know it’s not that black and white, but shit like that is crazy. But who cares, Carboni was never get any minutes with us anyway.

Should be negotiated on the price over 50M. only.

1M offer for him can be throw into the bin.
