Urgent Help: Rome-Milan overnight train ??

Sorry for opening a new thread for this guys. I couldn't find the other thread, where we used to discuss about these topics. I am going to Milan for Inter-Cagliari game (my dream trip). I will be flying from Berlin to Rome and planning to take an overnight train from Rome to Milan (arrive in Milan on 19th November - morning).

I will be travelling with my friends (5 of us) and we thought that we would be utilizing our time, as well as save on hostel-hotel fee, if we take a night train (couldn't find night buses). After some searching, I was able to find this:

Cheaper is obviously better (as long as it is good). I was wondering if anyone of you guys had an idea about the differences between BASE and MINI fares (can't change tickets, bla bla aside). What I wanted to know was if we would get a proper seat or not. It is my first trip to Italy, so just wanted to confirm before purchasing the tickets. Mini fare would cost me €37 and BASE fare €54. Both are ok, even though I will go for €37 one, if there are not much differences. I will definitely not be changing my tickets or train time or anything.

Please reply me ASAP guys (if you have any idea).

I will buy the tickets after reaching Milan (as suggested by some of the guys here). I am planning to buy the orange tier (€37). Any suggestions are welcome.

the train from rome to Milan is only about 4 hours. even a late one will get you to Milan just after midnight !

Upgrade your stadium seats. If its your trip of a lifetime then don't skimp on enjoying the game from a good seat. front of tier 2 on the wing is awseome and close. about 55 euro.

You should get proper seats with no problem Pravesh. I've taken some trains in Italy, to Milan, Bologna, Venice, Rome, bought any kind of seats, and never had any problem.

The only minor problem I've ever had was someone sat on my seats. But the train was pretty empty so I just sat somewhere else. Not even worth mentioning.

You should get proper seats with no problem Pravesh. I've taken some trains in Italy, to Milan, Bologna, Venice, Rome, bought any kind of seats, and never had any problem.

Yea it's safe. There are a lot of trains from Rome to Milan, vice versa. You don't have to worry about it.

Just buy your tickets at the train station. easy, no hassle. its very simple and safe to travel through italy and the trains are very good.

Sorry for bothering too much.

My itinerary is like this:
november 17: Berlin - Rome
november 18: Rome - Milan (train around 23:00)

Wouldn't it be risky if I decide to get it after reaching Rome in the train station only?? We will be 5 of us, so was scared if I would still get the five €37 tickets' or even the €54 tickets' in the train station on November 17/18.

I can't help with train info as when going to matches, I fly into the city [I prefer to never take trains if I can, but that's a personal choice - not because they are bad, they're not]; but I will 90% certainly be attending the Cagliari match as well

If you need infos to how to get to the stadium and moving around Milan,i will be happy to help you.Also,if you wanna stay in hostel,think again,Milan is one of the worst city's when i comes to hostels.Theres a good one just opened very close to Duomo,and the tram nr 19,wich takes you straight to san siro passes just in front of it.The same tram passes in front of the church where "the last supper" is locaed.If you can get tickets its a really nice thing to visit.Also,the metro is very easy to use.The red line is the one that takes you to san siro.

The hostel os called "la cordatta",is close to porta ticinese,next to Navigli district,where you can drink n party cuz thats the party district of Milano.just south of piazza duomo.Nike store is in corso buenos aires,its a walking distance from duomo.you can also get there with metro line red and get off at porta venezia station.its 10 min walk from there.Appiano Gentile is little complicated if you dont have a car.But,yu can get a train to Como,and right outside como train station there is a bus(#72) that goes to appiano.the problem with this is,the bus stops at the piazza in appiano and the training grounds are 4km walking distance from there,and there are no taxis there also.the training grounds are in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corn fields.lol.also make sure by your return tickets at como,cuz everything is closed at the piazza between 2-5.But listen,if you really wanna go to appiano,i have a friend that lives there,i can call her and ask her to help you.

This is the piazza in Appiano,thats all it is in this little town.The bus from Como stops here.And you see that underpass,4 km walk on that road is the training ground.

Seems, I will have to go there later on. The problem is that only I am an Interfan in my group and other guys wouldn't be interested in this, coz I am pretty sure that we will have to spend a day for this. I will have to make another trip on my own later on I guess.

I am definitely looking forward to Nike Store as well.

There is a distinct lack of safety and security in La Cordata Hostel. I awoke on 2 seperate nights to find a man in the bedroom. The first night he was standing over me and ran away when I shouted. The 2nd time he hid under a bed when the other girls were screaming. He again ran off. There are not enough keys to secure the place. Also you have to vacate the premises between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m everyday, even when there was a raging thunderstorm!




OH well, I will have to be in touch with you guys !!

Yes.you will find comments like this for every hostel in Milano.I havent personaly stayed at one,but my friend has stayed there and they saud it was the brst n cleaner one around.Besides,like i sad earlier,think twice about stayin in a hostel in Milano,its not the best city when it comes to hostels.

It's usually really cheap to just get a family room to stay in at a hotel, price is per room so split between 5 people it's usually only around 15-20 euros each for something like that. check out venere.com - I always use this if i'm staying in Italia with a big group
