I didn't see a thread for this years EL, so here it is. I'll post our schedule in the OP when it's released and try to update it as much as I can (remember).

I know it's highly unlikely given Mancini's European track record, but I hope we do well this year. As much as I want us to do well in Serie A this year I think it'd be pretty cool to qualify for the Champions League through a EL title win.

I think a European trophy added to our collection, even if it is the Europa League would be nice tbh. We have the second most (3) joint with Juve and Liverpool, so winning and one uping Juve would be pretty sweet, as it is doing it anywhere.

Winning it would mean a trophy and CL qualification, two things we have been desperately seeking for a long time.

Taking this seriously is important. Our coefficient points have all but disappeared, but maybe if we make it to the semi-finals or something and make it to the CL next season we won't get put in pot 4.

Quick question: I know we are restricted to a 21-man team. Is that including the 4 youth team players we are obliged to have as part of the team?

We need to win this tournament. We'll easily have one of the best squads in it. Time to get serious.

Also, even after last year's disaster, since Liverpool didn't win the EL Serie A is still in decent shape because Chelsea's UCL win is off the books.

We need Juventus to make a deep run, Napoli and Roma to make it out of the group stage in the UCL.

In EL us and Fiorentina both need to at least make the quarters.

I'm worries about Sassuolo too. They play good football in the league. But they just don't have enough depth for Europe and I doubt they'll take it seriously in view of this. This fact could damage the coefficient points seriously like Sampdoria did last season. Part of me wishes Lazio/Milan or even Torino got the last spot.

I'm just hoping Leicester chokes and so does West ham and Southampton, as we are in direct competition with England. Thankfully United don't have any Europe this season. With Mourinho it could have been a problem for us.

Quick question: I know we are restricted to a 21-man team. Is that including the 4 youth team players we are obliged to have as part of the team?

List A can contain up to 25 players, 2 must be goalkeepers and 8 must be "locally trained players". At least 4 of those "locally trained players" must be "club-trained" and the remaining 4 can either be "club-trained" or "association-trained".

Club-Trained = Registered with our club for 3 full seasons (continuous or not) between the ages of 15 and 21.
Association-Trained = Registered with a club within our association (Italy) for 3 full seasons (continuous or not) between the ages of 15 and 21.

If you cannot supply 8 "locally trained players", then your 25 man squad gets reduced because those 8 spots cannot be filled by non-locally trained players.

You are also allowed to register youth players on List B. They do not count towards your 25 man squad above. Players on List B must be born on or before January 1, 1995 (U-22) and they must have been registered for the club for 2 uninterrupted years after his 15th birthday.

I didn't realise Jovetic qualified for association trained.

I didn't realise Jovetic qualified for association trained.

It is a guess on my part.

He started at Fiorentina when he was 18 turning 19.

2008-09: 18 turning 19
2009-10: 19 turning 20
2010-11: 20 turning 21

I believe the rule says that the final season you can count is the one you turn 21 in.

Eder is the same exact situation I believe:

2005-06: 18 turning 19
2006-07: 19 turning 20
2007-08: 20 turning 21

Sorry my mistake.

It was Liverpool I had in mind. Klopp had a great run last year, getting to the final. Without then it's a blessing a team like Southampton is there.

3rd round or 4th round exit for us.Maximum Q/F.Mancini had the chance to win this and get Ucl and we got served by Wolfsburg 2 seasons ago. There is no doubt in my mind the same will happen this year.

I also do not see any real depth in our squad to win this unless this becomes our sole source of making the Ucl but I really hope that doesn't happen.I am okay with us being in the top 3 in the league come February and perhaps not taking this seriously and rotating our players.

Coefficient points are nice and dandy but we will be top seeds if we win the league anyway!!!!!!! Fat chance huh!!!

Wolfsburg were a better side than us at that stage so it wasn't really a shock.

Dortmund were absolutely the better team vs Liverpool last season form wise yet Liverpool stepped up on a European night....

I believe that under Mancini we will not be able to conjure up a shock against a better opponent in Europe.

It might not have been a shock but the truth is in the Europa League form counts for very little and shocks are a dime a dozen.
