I think the ref called that according to the book. As Roy Keane just put it: Dangerous play, threatening the safety of another player, so correctly sent off. Whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant. Whether he saw him coming or not is irrelevant.

Pretty much the same like jumping for a header & hitting the opponent in the air with your elbow. Same category in m opinion. I know it's harsh for Manchester to go out like this, but I wouldn't blame the ref. If this isn't a red, I don't know what is.

I think while it wasn't a good decision that it wasn't an awful decision either. I can see why the ref gave it, but he probably should have just handed out a yellow

I think it was a red, but shouldnt have been given, because utd didnt really gain anything from it. It wasnt last min tackle. They should give red to prevent these stupid challenges, because theyre dangerous, but no red in a game like this.

Clear Red

and going down to 10 men is no excuse to crumble and concede 2 goals in around 15 minutes at home
we played barcelona and defended greatly with 10 men away from home for over an hour

How that is a clear red?

You can watch the video, ball was cleared, Nani clearly tried to bring it down and Arbeloa charged from behind and chested the ball. It was a nothing incident.

If Nani deserved red then you all can just pack bags and go back to kitchen and send your ladies to play on the field

Looking at a gif (which is hardly conclusive as it doesn't even show that Nani didn't tackle, he was trying to bring ball down) and saying it was red? :palm:

Anyways seen worse than this tbh, so not really surprising.

if nani wants to practice the art of ninjutsu, then great, but don't do it on a football field and risk serious injury to an opponent

But he didn't threaten the safety of Arbeloa. Just look at that gif closely, Nani's leg wasn't even spread out, he was lookging at the ball, wanted good first touch and to bring it down. Arbeloa came out of nowhere. Im asking if that was even a yellow, let alone red.

Great match tbh. I thought Manchester was more dangerously, but except Vidic, it wasn't that much. Real took their chance and finished them off.
I don't think the red of Nani was the turning point, but the sub of Modric. He played as a beast. With a well deserved goal. :notbad:

So after all, there is some sense on this forum.

That was what?

Now players should allow ball to be dead on floor before touching it or they might threaten the safety of opponent :palm:

Red/yellow can be debated but I don't want this to turn into "United didn't deserved it" "They were holding Madrid 11 v 11" "In a game like this it shouldn't been given" because thats all irrelevant what matters is the challenge. From different angles it looks worse than others so it depends on what the ref saw. He could have seen a kick to the chest, remember Howard Webb at the world cup not giving a red for a kick to the chest? yes this is less vicious and less violent but if the refs sees a kick to the chest its a clear red. Perhaps United are too accustomed to Howard Webb :)

My opinion: A yellow would have been fine and would have been the best solution but its not outlandish to give a red there a kick to chest is red worthy but I didn't think it was that violent to give out a red there.

If Nani deserved red then every volley attacker misses and catches a bit of defender should be red.

Hell, Madrid GK missed the punch and punched Vidic. Even that should be red. That point itself is so pathetic. Funny thing is Nani didn't even go a challenge or a tackle. He was trying to bring the ball down.

Was going to mention the hit Vidic got  It was more dangerous and looked more intentional than the Nani start.

You're also forgetting the clear hand ball of Rafael which should've been a penalty and a red card, United got away from that one, and the Higuain goal that somehow got annulated because Ramos won a duel against RVP.

I will just translate what Real fan wrote, a friend of mine:

"I am happy Real won, but United deserved the win. There were three very bad mistakes by the ref. The red card for Nani was not even a yellow, let alone red. Moments later, there was clear penalty for Real, but the ref didn't gave it. And in the end, there was a start from Ramos that was penalty worthy and could be given"

Even Real fans are saying that, the Untied haters are just :palm: worthy sometimes. I wanted Real to go trough, Jose MUST win the CL with Real before leaving them... But not like this.

Even Marca (Madrid paper) said Nani was wrongly sent off.
