The Italian media is a disgrace and can go..

.. fuck themselves!

January 20th 2008. Inter hosted Parma at the Meazza, trailing with minutes to go when a Parma defender handles an Ibrahimovic shot destined for the back of the net. Inter are awarded the controversial penalty and would go on to win the game. What ensued was the biggest shitstorm I'd ever seen against a team by the Italian media I had ever seen. Cuoto, the defender in question would later go on to admit that the ball did in fact touch his hand that however did nothing to hinder the sensationalist headlines that would come from the Italian papers the next day..

The GDS: Messy Inter - Parma led 2-1 at San Siro before a highly controversial penalty and an Ibra brace
FI: Ibra and Ref rescue Inter | Inter mug Parma

It's almost impossible to retrieve the CDS and TS comments on the game, but their sentiments were equal to that of La Gazaetta's.

This prompted Mancini to go on to call the media out on their prejudice and the club to eventually take on a silence against the media in protest.

The game in question.
The penalty.

Fast forward two weeks. this time Inter host Empoli. Another controversial penalty is awarded for Inter which is converted. Inter would also go on to get sent to 10 men, our third in 4 matches. Empoli would also win a penalty late in the match. But Inter would win this match 1-0 and the media storm continued.

Football Italia - Inter thank Cesar, ref and Siena

The game in question

-----
Julione's clutch PK save :slick:
------
I can't find any replays of the penalty, however..

A week later, Inter travelled to Sicily to play Catania. Inter would win the game 2-0, but Inter's first goal which was scored by Cambiasso was offside. The second goal was not.

GDS - So much for Cambiasso - The (offside) Argentine breaks the stalemate in Catania and Suazo doubles the win amidst protests at referee Farina
CDS - A laughable Scudetto - Applause and ironic songs in Catania after Cambiasso's offside goal
TS - Cambiasso (offside) and then Suazo as Catania are beaten
FI - Controversy in Catania: Inter grabbed a hard-fought 2-0 win away to Catania and there was more controversy as Esteban Cambiasso's opener was clearly offside.

The game in question
The offside goal

These sentiments were maintained by the media few weeks afterwards until they got a saucier story in Mancini quitting and Mourinho joining. But why am I saying this?

It's simple, Milan qualified for the Champions League today, after riding a season plagued with penalty decisions in their favor (some of which have been controversial) none more so than the one today.. and this was all the Italian media could say..

GDS - Milan, Champions scream: A Balotelli penalty and a Mexes goal at the end save the Rossoneri
CDS - Scandal! Rossoneri third thanks to the referee. Milan in the Champions League thanks to an inexistent penalty.
TS - Milan: Champions League yes, Allegri maybe
FI - Mexes gives Milan last-gasp win!

The game in question

The penalty

It's a fucking disgrace at how they have treated Inter through the years but were willing to put their foot in their mouths for Juventus and for Milan.. and for that they can all go fuck themselves, they are all sorry excuses for journalists!

Great venting Nyall.

Questions for you:

- Who has an influence over media when he's not busy with his 'bunga bunga' parties ?

- Why has the F.I.G.C. for so long remained so quiet ? Even prior to 06 despite so much clear and obvious injustice on the pitch.

- Who is Marrotta ? And what's the connection ? Been around for a very very very long time. Drives a fiat :work:

- How can a 'Director' at a club also hold a position with the Italian Football federation ? #Galliani

- Who's a current Influencial F.I.G.C member that was an important member of the great Milan of the ninties ? Loved by Milan's owner.

- With the ridiculous council red tape around stadiums, how did Juve get one so easily ?

I got a good idea, but just curious what others think.

I would point out with regards to Juve's stadium (I would say respect, but saying "Respect to Juve" makes me want to kill myself) they just redeveloped the current site (I believe?) - and if they owned the land originally that makes it about 100x easier.

With us, we do not own the land, and its hard to find the space to build a new stadium from scratch in a city. The realistic thing is to develop one of these greenfield sites around Milan, but it seems we have made little progress in this because we havent even decided which one we want to redevelop. Let alone purchased it, let alone even settled on a stadium design.

Browha. The delle alpi was not owned by Juve prior to the redevelopment. It was owned and operated by the council.

oic. but presumably the first thing they did was purchase the stadium?
councils seem quite willing to make deals on selling the stadium - look at milan talking about buying the san siro

They did buy it eventually at a ridiculously discounted price. Cant recall if it was pre or post 06.

presumably it would have been before they started the redevelopment (Though probably after plans were approved), and the redevelopment was part of it - "regeneration" for the wider area (etc, etc, etc, you know the arguments)

Unfortunately it's always been like this here in Italy.. they're just a bunch of ignorant liars, there is no such thing as a decent journalist. They have so much influence it's almost irritating, plus all those working in sports dept. they keep making stories up and no one will actually say anything so, especially now that the next mercato session is going to start soon, you'll see a crapload of bs flying around... they actually know no shame really.
I don't know why they are so overly critic on Inter but it's always been like that :(

Regardless, why did Italy's pin-up club get such preferential treatment ? Or rather, who are the people that have looked after Juve so well for so long ?

For such a big(ish) league, Serie A stinks up European football.

From an Interista's point, Juve are the most hated team in Italy but i recall well before any of the calciopoli shit went on that it was Inter that were in fact the most hated team in Italy for a very long time (I'm talking 90's, 80's and beyond). But i'm not sure why that was.

Indeed, I remember when I was like 8 years old (1990) all of my cousins were Juve fans.. they used to buy magazines like "hurrah Juventus" and shit like that and talk crap about inter, even more than ac milan.
I wasn't into football at that time, I started loving football and Inter only in 1996 (my dad had always been interista and my best friend too), but I always assumed everyone hated Inter because of the big win in 1989 under Trapattoni's coaching with a record score at the end of the league... (they still awarded 2 points instead of 3 for a victory).
So there's always been hate for Inter around me since my early years, like you I still haven't found out why it's like this :/
I have grown accustomed to it even though sometimes it still irritates the hell out of me :p

Spot on. I was older than you during that period and I clearly recall that Inter was the most hated, but even by the rest of the clubs and not just Juve or Milan. Even prior to 89 Inter was disliked.

Like you, I'm not sure why but I'd be speculating if i was to suggest that it has something to do with its history of being a 'non-Italian' club (so to speak).
