Rumours are strong enough to justify a separate thread. If he is the last signing this summer heads must roll. He is a decent signing if RQ is still signed. If muntari means no RQ or any other quality winger I will be pissed.

Muntari: Wanted by Inter

Sky Sports News understands Inter Milan have made an approach for Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari.
The Ghanaian only joined Pompey from Udinese last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.
He was recently linked with a move to Juventus, but Serie A rivals Inter have now entered the chase for Muntari.
Pompey boss Harry Redknapp told Sky Sports News earlier this week that there had been no contact with Inter and that he wanted to keep Muntari at Fratton Park.
However, Inter boss Jose Mourinho now appears to have stepped up his interest in the player after failing to tempt Chelsea into selling Frank Lampard.
Muntari, who scored seven goals last term, has returned for pre-season training this week and stated he was looking forward to the new campaign with Pompey.

I haven't really seen him play much only watched some highlights and such, what is his defensive abilities like? What are considered his major strengths?

I agree with Stefan when it comes to Quaresma, I'd say overall no Quaresma during this transfer window would be a failure although I think we'll have him in one way or another.

OMYGOD!!!!!.

Muntari can never be a substitute for Quaresma, while one is a pure DM, the other is a winger. And as dumb as our management can be, they would know, not to swap one for other.

I dont know how he played in England, but he was a beast for Udinese. I would much rather have him in my team than Diarra.

We should have singed him last sesaon, rather than allow him to go to England, to have his value hyped up.

I have seen him play and he was phenomenal at Udinese. He is very much a defensive midfielder and I have never seen him play out wide. If Inter sign him, I expect that the club will still sign Quaresma.

The best thing about this signing, is that not only will it make us more physical in midfield allowing us to hold more possession, but the fact that it will give Cuchu the chance to have the best season of his career.

Mark my words.

I think Muntari is a great player and did very well @ Udinese but do we need more defensive midfielders, we already have Cambiasso, Chivu, Viera, Pele and Dacourt.

I too think he is being signed so Pele can be given to Porto. The best deal of the summer would be getting Muntari and getting rid of Vieira.

I can't see Muntari having anything to do with signing Quaresma. The source of that was from some rumor considering Muntari-Inter link. Journalistic crap.

First, I still don't believe Pele will leave. It is a step back for him, and Inter doesn't want him to leave. It is Porto who wants him. I don't think Pele will agree to the move.

As for Muntari, obviously this has nothing to do with Quaresma, so chill guys. But I wonder why Muntari? We have Dacourt, Pele will be probably loaned, but still, Dacourt and Cuchu, and then Muntari? I don't deny his class, he is amazing deffensive midfielder, who was splendid with Udinese, but I don't think he would be brought up as a substitute.

Maybe it is plan B, and push Cuchu up front, the thing I wouldn't apriciate, but if Jose would do it, I'm sure he would have his reasons.

And with all that said, I can say, I'm still not sure whether Lampard will not come. I can't believe we would give up so quick, as I well remember MM words. Lampard wants to come to us, he has an agreement with us, and it's just Chelsea who holds him up. MM told us to have patience, so I think we can get a little more of it.

MM can told us many kind of things. Maybe Kutner has informed Inter recently that Lampard will stay at Chelsea for this season.

But you are right Luka, why Muntari? We have exactly only Stankovic as a player who could at some extent play like Lampard. Muntari is for lower positions in midfield.

Yo guys a Chinese newspaper was saying we might be giving Pele on loan plus 20 mil for Quaresma. Then, Muntari will be brought in to push Chuchu up front should Lampard deal fail through.

Dont trust it too much

I want this player, fantastic player he was a beast in Udinese, and last year he was even better at portsumth, he is verz versatile, he could play as a box-to-box midfeilder, or a defensive midfeilder or on the left i have been following him for 2 year now he first caught my eye at the world cup, and i cant stop but to notice that he always overshadows the like s of essien and appiah in the national team, in the world cup and in the african cup, i have seen him take some set pieces, he takes the penalties for portsumouth + he is very dangerouse in free kicks especialy his crossing, if he comes he will win over any one how doubts the signing i am sure of that
p.s i imagine him raping Gatusso in midfeild just like he fucked up flamini last year in an arsenal game that i saw he completely outplayed and out muscled flamini(i saw that game)

Given a role with more freedom, Cambiasso can easily play as Lampard can.

But the way I see it is,

.......Muntari......
...Vieira...Cuchu...
..WF..............WF..
..........S............

Either one of the wing forwards would drop into the hole in the midfield allowing players to create positions virtually anywhere on the field. That way we dont need one attacking midfielder as our point of creativity. The 2 wingers will split that role in half, and with a solid mifield like that behind them we can hold the ball for much longer then usual meaning more chances for them to create.

The good thing is we can be flexible, throw in Stankovic and Jimenez and it turns from a 1-2 midfield to a 2-1 midfield.

That would most likely mean JZ playing on the left wing.

Let's not forget that Mancini also didn't see Zanetti as starter in his first season. Still, we saw what happened in the last season: Zanetti played probably more games than anyone in Europe.

One thing is certain.

Jose has hots for african dudes, so in some degree that direction isn't much of a suprise.

The best thing out of this, is that we are linked with indeed a great midfielder. It's not like we're linked with Brocchi :p

So that's a definite positive here.

I wouldn't be suprised by this move, but I think it would happen only after virtually all chances with Lampard will vanish.

I'd take Muntari before Flamini or Poulsen every day of the week.
