Inter President Steven Zhang has claimed that his “words were not strong enough” after the controversial attack on the Lega President Paolo Dal Pino.
Inter donate 100,000 to Coronavirus research
Inter and their President Steven Zhang have announced they are donating €100,000 to the Department of Biomedical Research at the Sacco Hospital in Milan to help battle the Coronavirus outbreak.
The virus has now affected over 3,000 people in Italy, including 107 deaths, a jump of 28 compared to the casualty rate only 24 hours ago.
Lombardy is at the centre of the Italian outbreak and Inter have made the €100,000 donation to help research into the disease, as scientists work to understand it better.
“FC Internazionale Milano and Steven Zhang announce the donation of 100,000 euro to the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences "L. Sacco" of Milan, directed by Prof. Massimo Galli,” read a statement.
“The donation, in the intentions of Inter and its President, is functional to support the research activities, flagship of the Department, a structure of excellence that has distinguished itself for having identified the first 3 complete genomes, obtained from Italian isolates of SARS-CoV-2 circulating in Lombardy.
“The work was carried out by the group of Milan State University and Sacco Hospital, coordinated by the professors of the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences of Milan University Gianguglielmo Zehender, Claudia Balotta and Massimo Galli, the same team that completed the isolation of 3 COVID-19 coronavirus strains currently circulating in the Codogno area.
“The ongoing analysis of further genomes will allow to obtain more precise estimates of the virus entry into our country and possible ways of spreading it.
"Inter has an indissoluble bond with the city of Milan and is proud of the dedication with which all the staff of the Sacco Hospital are dealing with the exceptional situation," said President Steven Zhang. "Since the beginning of the Coronavirus emergency we have followed with particular attention and apprehension the evolution of the situation, both as a Club and as a shareholder, stressing in all locations as the only priority was public health and safety. It is for this reason that FC Internazionale Milano feels the duty to support the Sacco Hospital," concluded Club President Steven Zhang.”
+ Zhang: 'Inter will not sell stars'
Inter patron Steven Zhang has ambitions to “attract the best talent from around the world” to maintain their status among the “biggest clubs in the world”.
The Nerazzurri are fighting for the Scudetto in Italy this term and are currently eight points behind Lazio with two games in hand after a controversial period.
Lautaro Martinez, one of the biggest stars at San Siro, has been linked with a move to the biggest clubs in Europe and when you put the arguments about the fixture list aside, the President has opened up on his big ambitions for the Milan side.
“For Inter, as one of the biggest clubs in the world, you have to try your best to win,” Zhang told Financial Times. “We don’t want to sell our talented players and attract the best talent from around the world.”
Zhang claims that Suning has increased the Nerazzurri’s “value as a club” to the sponsors after taking over at the Giuseppe Meazza.
The President has targeted his native China as a platform for new fans and widen the interest around his football club to give potential sponsors a wider global range.
“Since Inter was bought by Suning, the club has gone through a huge transformation,” he added. “Firstly, our performance on the pitch.
“Secondly, our commercial and marketing value. You can see from our digital platforms; the numbers are double or triple to what they were a couple of years ago.
“So, it’s logical that our value as a club is going up too.”
The Nerazzurri chief called the Serie A chief a “clown” and accused him of putting the people’s health in danger after learning about the rescheduled fixture list.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation but the Inter chief stands by his words. He revealed that he feels they were “soft” in an interview with the Financial Times.
“Many people think that my words were strong. I think they were soft and not strong enough,” he told Financial Times. “Public health must be put first.
“Like Inter, as a football club with millions of fans around the world, we have the responsibility and duty to lead by example, applying all precautionary measures correctly.”
The Inter patron continues by saying that he supports that matches should be carried out behind closed doors.
“Playing behind closed doors is the right thing to do, it’s the correct choice so that people don’t take any risks.
“Playing a match without fans is difficult from many points of view and nobody likes it, but it’s necessary to go ahead with the calendar and all the activities, privileging public health above all else. It’s currently the only viable option."
