Selling De Vrij for 25m and then buying a Bremer for the same is a sloppy move in my opinion.
Signing Bremer for 25m and with a salary of 3m per year is actually more costly than giving De Vrij a new contract with increases of up to 6m per year. That would cost us 11.5m per year on our books, compared to bringing in Bremer for 13.8m per year.
Our backline is our greatest strength for now. It's like trying to break the cohesiveness that has been built up over the years.
The financial gains we may be trying to achieve here may not be worth the quality of defense and time for adaptation or even the points that may be sacrificed to achieve this cohesiveness again.
Although it seems like we will try the same formula (sell Lukaku for Dzeko plus Correa) with De Vrij replaced by Bremer plus Ginter or maybe Luis Felipe.
From a technical point of view, Ginter looks good for squad depth if we were able to land, but will probably need some time to adapt. For Bremer, who has known this league for a long time, it might be easier to adapt to the type of game whatever it is later. Although he plays as a center-back, he seems to have a role as a stopper and applying defensive pressure as can be seen in how to intercept he made so far from the data below.
We might indeed replace them with players who are younger and have a resale price, but I think De Vrij still has the quality to play at the highest level in the next few seasons, his defensive maturity will be needed.
Even so, views on this condition may change, it remains to be seen what Raiola's request will be. Chances are the demand will be in the range of 5-6m plus bonuses is the expected number in my opinion, even if they agree I think they will slip a clause.
