and on top of that a great coach in Aguirre.
The signings look impressive...although Pernia isn't really needed, given that they have extended the contract of Antonio Lopez.

Let's see...I had them on my books last year with Bianchi, whom I still consider the best coach in the world, but they were impatient with him.

I know what you mean, but the lad seems to have some conflicting plans…I still think he’ll be happy to stay for another…two years maybe? But without the backing of the late Jesus Gil I doubt he’s in a honeymoon phase (Happy times!) you can see it in the way he plays for los colchoneros :( Cerezo seems like an ambitious fellow, so you never know…

I don't like the new Real president at all. He seems to be pretty smart and I don't really wanna see Kaka, Robben and Cesc in Spain for Real.

If he really gets them, plus Capello, they will have a good team next season unfortunately.

Yep. What do you think about Mijatovic as their new sporting director though, Mehdi? I believe Pedja has no previous experience in this before?

Calderon better delivers at least 2 of the 4 personnels he mentioned though, otherwise, he'll end up looking like Perez clown Perez. Hopefully, Kaka & Capello.

I think it'd be better to have a new thread for the new season. :)

Real Madrid's new coach will be officially presented on Thursday at the Santiago Bernabéu
5 July 2006
Fabio Capello will be Real Madrid's next coach. The former Juventus boss will arrive in Madrid in the next few hours and will spend the afternoon at the Club's facilities. A press conference has been scheduled for Thursday at 12 pm CET at the Santiago Bernabéu, where Capello will be officially presented and give his first press conference.

BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE
An old friend of White fans, Fabio Capello, who led Real Madrid to the 1997 League title, is returning to the Spanish capital. He is a coach who has achieved success with every team he has managed, and who already has 8 League titles and one European Cup under his belt. In love with Spain and Real Madrid, Capello has returned to restore glory to his team. Fabio Capello -born in Pieris, Italy on 18/06/1946- made his player debut in 1964 with Sociedad Polideportiva de Artes y Labores de Ferrara, also known as Spal Ferrara. Three years later, he signed with Rome, where he won his first title as a player, the Italian Cup. His great performances for the Italian capital's team led him to sign with Juventus, where he became a fundamental part of the Club. He later was selected to play for the Italian national team. His most climactic moment with the Azurra came when he scored in Wembley Stadium, giving Italy their first ever win over the English. With 32 caps, he retired in 1980 while playing for Milan.

Capello began his successful coaching career in the early 1990's with Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi's Milan team that won four League titles and a European Championship. He led his men to a record 58 straight Calcio matches without a loss, from 19 May 1991 to 21 March 1993, including an entire season without losing one match. He had already managed the Rossonera side during the last five matches of the 1987 Calcio.

With his own style of coaching, Capello reached one of the pinnacles of his career in 1994, when his Milan defeated Barcelona 4-0 in the European Cup final. He then moved to Madrid to lead the Whites in the revolutionary 1996/97 season that ended with a Spanish League title. Along with Fabio came players of the likes of Mijatovic, Suker, Seedorf, Roberto Carlos, Illgner, and Panucci, the foundation of the team that would conquer the Club's longed-for Seventh European Cup, 32 years after fruitless attempts.

After a brief, unsuccessful second stint as Milan manager, Fabio Capello landed at Roma, one of the Italian Clubc with the largest fan-base, but with a short list of titles. It was the Italian boss who led the team from the Italian capital to win the Scudetto in 2001, the third in Club history, and the first since 1983.

He took on another adventure with yet another great Italian team, Juventus, where he won another two Scudettos in 2005 and 2006. With these last two titles, Capello became the first coach to win the Italian League with three different teams. The Pieris native has achieved the milestone of winning a League title with every team he has managed, a feat almost impossible of equaling.

‘Sir Fabio’ returns to Real Madrid to do what he did 10 years ago, win titles. Despite only staying one year in the Spanish capital, he fell in love with the city and a team that he has been a fan of since he left. He will rejoin some old friends, like Pedja Mijatovic, Raúl, and Guti, who he coached in 1996/97.

Wow, he hired Mijatović as a director? Then Calderon is smart indeed!

I really liked Mijatović, he was a great player and very decent, not to mention he killed Juve in the 98 CL final (but some still say that goal was offside :D ) That goal brought the CL to Madrid after about three decades, so he must be popular with the fans.

So all in all great moves!

BTW, how credible is the Cesc rumor? If Juve are relegated and Vieira comes back to Arsenal, then maybe!!!

BTW Mehdi, has a Catalan ever played for Real Madrid?

'We want Beckham forever,' says Calderon
5 July 2006
LONDON, July 5 (Reuters) - Real Madrid want England midfielder David Beckham to stay at the club 'forever', newly-elected president Ramon Calderon said on Wednesday.

'He's very important for us. Very, very important in any sense,' he told Sky Sports News in an interview before Real confirmed that Italian Fabio Capello was returning for a second stint as coach.

'He's a premium player, magnificent. All the supporters here are very much with him and of course he's very important in the commercial area,' added the 55-year-old lawyer.

'I want to have him with us forever, at least the three years I think we have still with him.'

The 31-year-old Beckham, who stood down as England captain on Sunday after his country's defeat in the World Cup quarter-finals by Portugal, joined Real from Manchester United in July 2003 for 24.5 million pounds ($45.23 million).

The new president promised in his election campaign that he would sign Arsenal's Spanish international midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea's Dutch winger Arjen Robben and AC Milan's Brazilian midfielder Kaka.

He expanded on his ambitions on Wednesday, putting the probability of Fabregas joining Real at 70 percent but recognising that it would be difficult to prise Kaka away from Milan.

'He (Fabregas) wants apparently to come here,' he said. 'We've been talking to him previously and of course we have now to get in touch with Arsenal. They have the last word.

'I know that (former Real player and sporting director Predrag) Mijatovic has been in touch with his (Fabregas') representatives and he has said he is very much interested in joining us,' he added.

'We can get an agreement, I think that is something we can do. I wouldn't say easily, but we have a good opportunity.'

On Robben, he said Mijatovic had met Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich at the World Cup in Germany and reported back that an agreement was possible in theory.

'I know that he was in touch with the player and it seems that everything will be okay, and the player wants to come here to Real Madrid,' he added.

Calderon said Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy was another option but Capello would have to make the final decision.

Asked whether Brazilian striker Ronaldo would be staying, he replied: 'I can't say anything about that honestly because I have to know what Capello thinks about that.

'From my point of view, he's a magnificent player -- perhaps the best striker in the world -- but it's not my decision. It's something that has to be decided by the coach and lets see what he decides.'

The future of midfielder Robert Carlos was similarly uncertain, with Calderon saying he believed Chelsea had made the Brazilian an offer.

Although my main man, Hamed, will disagree, it looks like there's a bright note in Calderon after all, Mehdi. :D Speaking of which, what's your opinion on Becks? I need your help in convincing poor Hamed who was misleaded after he was forced to watch a Beckham brainwash movie for 24 hours straight. :p

(If Mehdi thinks Becks is great, I'm screwed. :D)

Real Madrid was founded by two Catalans.. ;)

But otherwise....Luis Mila.

I still don't believe that cesc joins them, but if he does, given that his parents still have a season ticket for camp nou and all of his friends are die-hard barca fans, it will be interesting.

I don't mind/care for Capello...but I just don't want Kaka.
Capello will hopefully/eventually end up with trouble, if he doesn't play the type of show football they want in Spain.

I will cross my fingers hoping Real fails this season as my heart breaker would turn violent should they overgo Barcelona in performances.

Anyhow, Real seems dangerous now, though I doubt all their intentions in transfers will come true. Another thing, where does the money come from? All of a sudden they're planning to get a bunch from Juve + Cesc, Robben and Kaka. That seems expensive.

I just hope we get Buffon from merda. Maybe Trez and Zambro as well.

Most of Juve's players will move to Madrid because of this, as did the Roma players when Capello left Roma. Capello likes to use the same usual players he trusts. I think Emerson, Trezeguet, Zambrotta and Ibra will all join Madrid...and as I mentioned in the General Rumours thread, expect Cassano to be a completely different playert to the one he was last year and with all of these changes it's quite possible for Madrid to be El Campeon once again.

Holy crap! Franco Baldini is officially Real Madrid's too! Dear God, they will be a force to reckon with next season.

I only fear one thing, that they will recognize that FatLardo is a waste of space, put him on the transfer list and Moratti, after only watching Ronaldo's 3 goals and not the rest of his WC performances, will go after Obelix.

My thought precisely – surely Capello won’t take ant crap from him and hence there is a possibility that he will be up for sale. Having said that, what I read in the article below it somehow indicates that he may stay. Further to our delight there are rumours that Ingrato may have to operate his knee and that could sideline him for a while.

All that said, I guess when you have a soft spot for someone you just can’t help yourself!

Capello aims to rediscover Real's lost spirit
Thu Jul 6, 2006 1:16 PM BST

By Simon Baskett
MADRID, July 6 (Reuters) - New coach Fabio Capello said he wanted to restore a lost spirit to Real Madrid after signing a three-year contract on Thursday.
"I'm really looking forward to working with this club," the 60-year-old Italian told reporters. "I'm convinced this is the most important club in the world.
"We have to win trophies and to do that we have to work hard, be humble and rediscover the spirit of Real Madrid. I think we have lost that spirit in recent years."

Club president Ramon Calderon said the nine-times European champions had signed the former Juventus coach because of the way he revived Real during his first spell a decade ago.
"Contracting Fabio Capello was an obsession of mine because he is a born winner," said Calderon.
"The 1996-97 season when he took over a team in crisis is fixed in my memory. He took over a team that came sixth in the league and led it to the championship.
"He also laid the foundations for the team that won the European Cup in 1998."
Calderon said he would not involve himself in Capello's work with the players.
"Capello and (sporting director Predrag) Mijatovic will work together without any interference from me or the rest of the board," he said.
DISCIPLINE
"He is here to restore the self-esteem of the players, to instil order and discipline and give them necessary affection too. It is a difficult task but he is a master of this art."
Capello said one of his first tasks would be to demand more commitment from a squad of players that includes high-profile figures such as Ronaldo, David Beckham, Robinho and Raul.
"We in football are extremely lucky to work just two hours a day and my view is that you have to give 100 percent during that time," he said.
"We need athletes in the team. The fans can't stand players who don't run on the pitch. They must understand that you can't win games just because you wear the white shirt of Real Madrid."
Calderon became Real's president this week following a controversial victory in an election marred by bitter personal disputes and confusion over the validity of the postal vote.
He has said he will try to sign several players to strengthen the squad and has targeted AC Milan midfielder Kaka, Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.
A host of other names, in particular players from Capello's former club Juventus, have also been linked to the club. Italian champions Juve face relegation next week when a sports tribunal decides punishments at a match-fixing trial.
"We are working to put together a great squad full of quality players that will win trophies," said Capello.
"Given what is happening in Italy at the moment I think everybody will be on the look-out for Juventus and Milan players.
"A lot of clubs are hoping that they will be relegated. You only have to look at Sunday's World Cup final, there will be eight Juve players out there."
