It really gives you a new appreciation for life... these players who devote themselves to the pitch and work so hard are tragically taken.. really makes you ponder about the meaning of it all..

sorry about that...but cant you change the name of this thread to "Sports deaths" and then we can discuss deaths in other sports such as...ehhhh...:hopeful: wrestling, boxing, NHL, NFL, etc. Surely there are deaths in other sports than Football(or soccer) as i didnt see it was called on the other thread! and then move the thread to the Off Topic and Other Sports section?

Makes you wonder how this happens in this day and age, with all the medical technology available.

Very sad news. If i recall correctly, last summer his tranfer to Galatasaray had fallen through after failing his medical. Maybe it had to do with his heart.

Cheick Tiote dies aged just 30 after collapsing in training with Chinese Super League side

Former Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote has died aged just 30 after collapsing during a training session for Chinese Super League side Beijing Enterprises Group FC.

His agent Emanuele Palladino said: "It is with deep sadness that I confirm that my client Cheick Tiote sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training with his club Beijing Enterprises.

"We cannot say any more at the moment and we request that his family's privacy be respected at this difficult time.

"We ask for all your prayers."

Tiote moved to the second-tier China team from St James' Park last February after six years on Tyneside, having only featured three times for Toon in the season just gone.

He had played 11 times for Beijing since the move. The club have yet to make a statement on Tiote’s health.

Tiote's former team-mate at Newcastle, Demba Ba, tweeted: “may Allah gives grant you jannah brother Tiote.”

Hate to ask this but how does someone just collapse at the age of 30. At Newcastle he was known for his endurance and i just wonder what caused it

I think it was known that he had a heart condition right? If I'm not mistaken he failed a medical a couple years ago, right?

true but if they tested more often te athletes for heart conditions they would probably reduce significantly such episodes.

Cardiovascular problems are almost always hereditary and can appear at any time. What's worrying is that it could have probably been prevented.

I want to make it clear that this kid has not died, however it does not look good for him.

This is Abdelhak Nouri, he collapsed during a pre-season friendly match against Werder bremen. They are saying now that oxygen was restricted from his brain for too long and he has irreversible brain damage. If he lives it will probably be as a vegetable with a feeding tube. Only 20 years old.

That's such a scary thought...I wonder how it happened. There is nothing worse than being a prisoner within your own mind.

Also JJM that link redirects me to their front page every time, I had to read the story elsewhere.
