I haven't seen anything from Mustafi that suggests he can be as good. Of course you can argue that Miranda was a nobody at this age but right now I rather put my money on Skriniar.

One thing is certain we shouldn't commit to buy Mustafi to any big fee like 30m, let alone more. He's not a world beater, not Arsenal's best CB or anything like that.

Really? Any time really that I have watched Mustafi I've been really impressed. I'd really love him. Though can't be great if Wengar is happy to get rid of him considering the junk they have for the Cb positions

I thought he was the best CB at Arsenal alongside Koscielny last season. Mustafi is IMO at Howedes level, definitely more guaranteed quality than Skriniar. Remember, at Arsenal CBs look bad because of their style of play and lack of cover from the midfield.

This will be a good buy if we can afford it.

spallo is an experienced coach who can manage playing time between starter and rotation well. especially when you just need to manage 3 quality options (not 4, 5, 6).

I would bring in Mustafi and slowly phase out Miranda throughout the season.

3 players for 2 places can easily rotate, or all 3 can play.
Mustafi has also played at RB IIRC, so he could be an alternative there, or they could switch to 3 men defense for parts of games.

i don't see that as a major issue.

at the end the starting two will be those with best chemistry and more in form, which can change during the season.
unfortunately i am very skeptic at us being able to pull off any last minute deal, because of obvious lack of cash.

the only hope is that the borderline-derisive articles coming out can push Suning to push some money out even if just to save face

About benching someone, bear in mind we don't have many attacking options so I wouldn't be surprised if Spaletti had to use Cancello for that purposes at some point of the season. Then suddenly we have to use Dambo or... all 3 CBs + Dalbert. Not sure when but transfermarkt shows he played a bit on the right somewhere.

I just read that Inter is bidding again, which I really think is a dangerous game to play 2 days before the deadline. I think Mustafi can be a really good signing because, as mentioned earlier, I think most of his flaws at Arsenal were at least partially caused by huge problems in the midfield. If we could get him for that 30M I would be really happy, although paying what Arsenal paid last season might be necessary but I wouldn't mind it either.

Gotta say, there's some serious difference between the cost of Höwedes and Mustafi.

Their age difference is only four years.
