Yeah, The whole idea behind the 3rd to 8th placed teams playing for 1 spot is stupid tbh. There is already 16 point gap between Bari (3rd) and Venezia (8th). Maybe just play a playoff between 3rd and 4th. That's enough.
There are rules in place which dictates whether or not there's going to be a playoff or how many spots there are.
You try to find logic everywhere but here there's none. It's some hybrid nonsense rule, either you have a fair playoff or just let the better placed team advance.
What's exactly unfair about this?
It's basically the Away Goals Plus but without the incentive to sit back at all times just because you got an away goal.
Team that finished higher has home advantage and advances in case of an equal result due to the fact that over 38 games they were ahead of the other team, in order to reach the playoff final.
This does not apply in the two legged playoff final, though. We can have PKs there.
Only issue I have is that the final Serie B playoff as well as the Lega Pro final should be played at the Olimpico, similar to how the English use the Wembley for their finals and it's a magestic experience for fans of smaller teams that flock in numbers. And they'd do that in Italy, too, provided they're allowed to move.
Imagine Palermo vs Padova at the Olimpico last summer for a Serie B spot. We'd have 60,000 fans there from teams that are deprived of such experience.
Pisa vs Monza on the other hand, perhaps not, but they could have used the Parma or Genoa stadium or something instead of two legs.
Long story short, the rule in place is actually great, but we need a neutral venue final.
