Great goal. I hope he is able to continue trying for those types of goals.

I really don't like where this discussion is headed but here goes another twist at it.

Just to be clear, by this time last year:

Icardi, 8 goals in 11 games, including 2 Champions League goals (with the season starting a week earlier and Icardi out for 3 games). 1 converted PK
Lukaku, 7 goals in 12 games, with 0 goals in Europe (with Lukaku out for only 1 game). 2 converted PKs.

The numbers seem comparable but the context is lacking.

8/18 goals of Inter for Icardi, including games he was missing. For games present, it goes to 8/13.
7/27 goals of Inter for Lukaku. For games present, it simply goes to 7/26. [not even considering that Lukaku directly cost this team 2-3 disallowed goals this season]

Icardi also had 2 assists, so direct involvement to 10/18 of our goals (or 10/13 when present) while Lukaku has no assists thus far.

Minutes played:
2018-19 Icardi-667 minutes (a bit over 7 full games)
2019-20 Lukaku- 960 minutes (almost 11 full games)

This includes a limited squad for the Champions League games last year and a much reduced salary budget for the team that the numbers do not show.

There's no comparison even in the current season where Icardi has thus far 7 goals in 7 games plus an assist. All that's in 466 minutes by the way which are barely 5 full games. And 3 of his goals are in the Champions League.

It's easy to beat someone who's been casted out in the middle of the season. That should not be the target. 20 goals in the league should be the target and at least showing up in Europe.

From what I recall, was it not Icardi himself that cited injury at some point which is why he was not called up? He did come back, and generally looked terrible. Even before his "injury", he had 9 Serie A goals by matchday 23. I guess time will tell but I believe Lukaku will have more by that point.

It's not even that I'm a fan of Lukaku. I would prefer someone other than Lukaku/Icardi that can offer more to his team. Lukaku will always have a poor touch and ruin plays. Icardi will always have games where he touches the ball maybe 10 times and does not even try (especially if those games happen to be away vs. physical teams like Torino, where he disappeared almost every game he's played).

Scoring goals is important but it is not everything for a striker nowadays while Icardi is undoubtly better finisher Lukaku plays for the team while Icardi only plays for himself

Today he showed another dimension that Icardi doesn't have which makes me happy but at the same time sad. What a crazy duo we would've had if not for crazy Wanda.

Why can't we ever just be happy that we finally have a real coach, gathering points, some good players and that we can also score goals even without Perišić-Icardi.

i guess God created Inter fans when he was depressed

All you are providing is that you are not objective at all, it is hard Not to notice bias undertone towards Icardi , and anti Conte ... here is a fact for you! this is the highest scoring Inter 10 games into a season.. for at least the past 10 years
So where we may not have an individual scoring all the goals we have a whole team effort... Better team morale and no drama in the dressing rooms.

Great goal, cant complain. Still expect a lot more than this, especially in bigger matches. We will wait and see.

Has Icardi ever scored a goal like that? Receiving the pass near the byline, cutting in and then finish it off?

Remember him scoring superb volley vs Spurs last season in CL and also one more goal from outside the box but never saw him scoring goals like this.

No. He’s had some good strikes, I can think of one in this first season when he curled it from outside the box. He never scored on the dribble outside the box.

This Icardi and Lukaku nonsense in every thread is nauseating and makes visiting the forum a chore. We're second place (well, first as of now) in the table. We're playing better than we did last season. Wish more people were talking about today's game and less about this other nonsense.

When Icardi was at Inter, there wasn't any Icardi vs Lukaku nonsense, now every thread is Icardi vs Lukaku. One more reason why this transfer is a failure :D

Lautaro was our most dangerous forward last year as well, especially if you compare his performances post Icardi's "knee injury". The best thing about Lautaro is he can have an excellent game without getting a goal or assist, while you can pretty much never say that for Icardi. Lukaku will definitely get more goals than last season's version of Icardi in Serie A.
I agree with you

LOL. What can we do about it?

This forum now consists of 2 groups, Inter fans and Icardi devotees.

Inter fans focus on what is happening in the present. They cherish every victory and appreciate any progress that the team has made.

Icardi devotees brood over the departure of their man crush at all times and are generally unhappy with anything to do with this club regardless of how well the club is doing currently. Thus, we still see Icardi's name in every thread of this forum, thanks to this group. Every single point dropped by Inter is an opportunity for these people to nitpick on their favourite scape goat and their most loathed breathing creature on this planet, Lukaku. Every goal scored by Lukaku is like a fire lit crossbow bolt shot right to their nutsacks. The pain is immense. Well, at least they have a reason to be excited about when Inter don't win. Wonder if they are happy if Inter win though now that their revered deity doesn't play with the club anymore?

Ok seriously, Icardi is fantastic striker. There's no denying that. I appreciate what he has done for the club but can't we just move on already? He isn't here anymore and it's unlikely that he will ever return. The Icardi era is over and let's just enjoy this new Inter era under Conte's reign. Let's support Conte and the players. The team is doing well and let's just give credit where it's due. No use speculating "if Icardi was still here, we would this and we would that, bla bla bla". The fact is, he is not an Inter player at this moment and what's the point of lamenting his loss every single day of your Inter life?

Fuck outta here with that rational, positive shit. We were better in 5th with Spalletti and a narcissistic pezzo di merda & his puta slagging us every week.

Lol....in all honesty bro....being an Inter fan i think has just ruptured some of the fans in here, they are scarred beyond redemption and subconsciously wish failure as it is familiar enough to sleep at night.

I don't understand this passive-aggressive hate towards Lukaku, nor do I get why people are comparing Lukaku with Icardi at all.

1. Icardi was axed for non-footballing reasons. We all know that. So any footballing comparisons are completely pointless.

2. How can anyone not like Lukaku so far. His attitude is so positive, he is working hard, he is sticking to his coaches' gameplan and even scoring more often than most of us expected (at least more than I expected). Yesterday when he was being substituted, he seemed to be giving young Esposito some advise - it looks like Lukaku is mentoring the young kid and still thinking about the game after he is subbed out. That is so good to see, instead of the usual grumpy attitude strikers have when they are subbed out. This is the kind of teamwork & spirit I want at Inter.

Lets stop with these pointless, tiresome comparisons with that injury-faking, egoistic Wanda's pet. We are looking more of a team than last season, and lets enjoy this and hope we can last till January when the reinforcements arrive.
