This is Lukaku's best season at Utd when he scored 27 goals in all comps

Now imagine how bad his worst might look ?

So in 51 matches for ManUtd he scored 27 goals. And he missed 15 chances (as shown in this video). Just trying to discredit a player without looking at the bigger picture. Even the almighty Icardi had 15 chances squandered per season, at least.
A couple of notes:
- those highlights said "sitters" while clearly only 3-4 of those were tap-in level sitters, others were chances he also helped carve out and were often with one or two defenders on him, even difficult ones. You can hardly consider a sitter outjumping two defenders on a corner and heading just wide.
- those highlights include NT matches as well.

If anything, from that video you can say that
- he does help create chances which is evident even from his worst of that season.
- he tries to hard to place the ball sometimes instead of blasting it.

Lukaku's biggest problem is that he's not executing a lot. He has a high conversion rate because he doesn't take his chances. He wants to be 100% certain that it will go on target to make the shot. And even then, it's not really that high since most of them are usually high quality chances. He has a good first time shot which is a direct contrast of his awful first touch, but explicable since a first shot can be overpowered whilst a first touch will feel like a bad pass instead. But for a first time shot to work, he needs to get away from defenders or be forgotten by them. Which won't happen very often and he has to be ready for the few moments it does because that's his highest chances to get a goal. Still feels like PKs and (rebound) tap ins will be his major source of scoring.

He's capable of providing space for teammates occassonally (ie dummies or help with one-twos), but that usually comes when we are counter attacking and mostly vs inferior sides. That's not going to be a very popular situation for us. If the offense clicks then maybe this will liberate us more moving up front.

Our most dangerous players offensively so far are Politano, Sensi and Lautaro. Politano could have scored like 4 goals so far (one annulled for Lukaku's lack of awareness, a couple hit the post and so on...)

If we have more great crosses (like the ones from Barella and Godin, plus Sensi who can pull it off) and bad defensive hiccups in favor (Romagnoli's man marking and Lecce's lack of offisde trap) then we can see him having a relatively good year. But so far it seems like opposition, with the exception of Slavia Praha, fears him due to his imposing stature more than anything. Which is good for us and hopefully he manages to convert quite a few to gain confidence going further into the season before the defences start realizing that he has some major weaknesses they can take advantage of.

Not very worried about him vs Lazio, but would prefer him next to Politano or Sanchez. I feel that Lautaro + Sanchez/Politano is going to be our best duo but there's no way you can bench Lukaku and he even has the goals thus far to show for.

He tried to score too much and had only one good enough attempt with that low left shot. Overall yet another typical performance aside from more scoring attempts. I keep seeing the same things over and over, if there's a sign of improvemen then it's truly minimal. Not sure if I prefer him taking "early" shot over his "undecisiveness" over shooting it.

I liked him today. Played as typical modern 9, moved a lot, played for the team. Looked much more confident than he was couple of games before. Also linked well and had few food runs.

Solid 6.5 from me.

IMO while it wasn't a perfect performance, he finally shows some improvements. He wasn't loosing the ball instantly, sometimes even kept it against the odds. Won solid amount of aerial duels and headed them in a right direction. Finally had some nice shots. This game made me more confident about the gamble we are making. Seems like Conte is playing him to (re-)build him and while now it may be risky, the award can be great and I can slowly see signs that we're getting there.

He had a few beautiful runs today that were ruined with terrible passes. His chemistry with Politano is much better than with Martinez

I liked his performance against Lazio. Held the ball and linked up well with his teammates. Always provide an option to move the ball forward. His eagerness to shoot is good for us. It seems Conte instructed him to try becoming more selfish if he gets a chance to shoot.

Yes, it's exactly what I meant. Taking bad shots equals doesn't hit his scoring chances.

Did you see the shooting opportunities he did not execute in his first games? Today he was too eager to shoot just anything because they told him he could equal a Ronaldo record ffs.

Amazing we're lauding him for doing the basics i.e. controlling a pass and linking up with team mates. We might as well have got Caicedo who linked up better, anticipated better and was not so easily shrugged off the ball.

I don’t agree. Unfortunately once players come to Inter, doing the basics turns into advanced calculus. So please let us laud away

I don't think he is bad or something but Duvan would have done the same job for less fee and less salary.

Our attack became 10x more threatening the moment this guy was replaced with Sanchez.

I keep reading how he's doing all this dirty work perfectly, but it's not exactly helping us if our attack becomes much more potent as soon as he's gone.
In fact last night when keeping an eye on him you'd see him just standing there waiting to receive a cross in a stupid position almost every time we built up an attack. He wasn't bothering Lazio's defense to make space - he was hardly even paying attention to them. Fixated on the ball but not bothering to position himself properly in order to receive it.

Most of the time it took him 20 sec to get out of his offside position after not getting the cross - walking around, never running. I mean what the fuck. He touched the ball 6-7 times in the entire game and not once did it turn into anything justifying 75 freaking millions. He looks like he's always tired and would rather be in bed.

I want this useless fucker benched and watch Conte develop Sanchez + Lautaro. No way in hell it'd only have been 1-0 with them.
Give Lukaku his chance after the 75th minute, maybe that will motivate him to show his worth.
