I just really wonder what Lukaku is thinking. What an extreme risk unless he is now open to Saudi Arabia. There is no guarantee the Juventus offer comes thru. It’s contingent on a sale of a player that isn’t even in advanced discussions to leave the club.

He blew up the chance to play for a club that essentially bent over backwards to accommodate him every chance they got. And a club where he knows he can perform. For what? A little extra money? A chance to play Allegri ball? To stick it to Inzaghi for not starting him?

This guy is extremely insecure and a proven choker. Now he’s going to put himself in a pressure cooker due to the way this move came about. What could possibly go wrong?

He wants to play in Europe but for the club that pays him the most.

Anyway, we should forget about him and look for other strikers. The idea of having Correa as a first sub gives me nightmare.

He definitely did not make a mistake and fact is that none of both could have handled playing 90 minutes. So in order to sub someone in in the middle of the game you have to leave someone there who brings another dimension which is Lukaku. Dzeko cannot bring the same physical attributes or the freshness even if subbed in.

If he really talked to Juventus before the final though he shouldn’t even have played the final to begin with. This is the ugliest of gestures after giving him all the chances no matter if he repaid by performing or not.

I got to admit myself that I was in favor of bringing in Lukaku for all the obvious reasons, but he can stay the fuck away after what he has done. Even if he was pissed in the final there is no fair reason in the world why you’d act like this.

I don't get it either. If he wanted more money he could try to earn his spot at Chelsea on his current wages or go to Saudi Arabia.

Lukaku is a good CF and already works well in our system, so I obviously wasn't against having him here next season.

The problem I had was with the 35m fee we were reading in the last days. That was fee ridiculous for many reasons, one of them being that Lukaku publicly declared he has no intentions returning to Chelsea ridding them pretty much of any negotiating power in the talks between the clubs. How the fuck chelsea managed to push us to shelve 35m is beyond me.

Anyway, this whole "not picking up the phone" and flirting with Rube is a blessing in disguise. Because apparently overpaying with 35m for Rom is perfectly fine but not picking up the phone clearly crossed a line for Ausilio/Marotta

Time to worry about finding a proper CF I guess..

Well put. And to add, this is the club who took him in and tried to get him ready for the World Cup.

I was tentatively, pragmatically in favour of getting him back under the right conditions, but those conditions never seemed on the cards.

Frankly, I'm both relieved that we're not dropping 35/40M on him and tying him down to a massive contract, and apprehensive about who we're going to get instead of him.

What I don't feel, though, is betrayed. It's been clear since before he joined us the first time that the guy is capable of pulling this shit. It's like if you start dating someone who has a history of cheating on their partners: you can't go all pikachu face when they cheat on you.

Its a tough job trying to replace Lukaku. All the players we choose next are big IFS , including what we have , Thuram. So we basically have 1 striker we can count on only.

I really believe we try to strike a deal with Zapata and Atalanta. His input was almost nothing, 2 goals and 5 assists in 25 starts, henche the value plummeting. But we can revive him. If we can get him on cheap. Say 10M.
I get where your coming from, but signing Lukaku now was a risk.

I do think Lukaku was the best option out there given our budget. I also think Lukaku would have been a problem after 1/2 years, given he’s in decline and his massive salary. So i’m not really disappointed we didn’t sign him for the rumoured fees.

I am worried about who we will sign instead. Morata or Taremi would be very, very underwhelming. They are nowhere near Lukaku’s level and never will be IMO. Someone like Balogun, David or Højlund would be great.

I think he wanted to be a guaranteed starter and assumed that he would when he arrived last year but Dzeko performed well while he was injured and then after that he was never able to get his spot back.

Then when he said he wanted to come back he assumed Dzeko would be gone and he would be an assured starter but Thuram showed up and instead of playing and proving that he is better than hil and deserve the time he decided to run away from the problem, same as at Chelsea.

As to why Milan or Juve, imo he wants to stay in Italia because he saw that it's the only league where he is considered as one of the best strikers, and where his playstyle seems to match and work against most teams. Juve and Milan being the other clubs possibly willing to take him and able to afford him, with the addition of actively looking for a striker, he wanted to test the water.

He is not crazy or only thinking about money, he would've gone to SA, in my opinion he is just a mental midget and the thought of fighting for a starter spot doesn't even come to his mind.

Even without Thuram if we bought him and he somehow ended up losing his spot he would've jumped ship at the first occasion.

Strange that him being unhappy for not starting in CL final annoyed me waaaaay more than this Rube thing.

Like STFU you are part of the team, you deserve jack shit, if coach gives you a chance you bite and scratch to stay on the field. And If he even subs you out after 10 minutes, you greet you teammate coming on and fuck off to the bench again. Zero tolerance on this issue for me.

If true this would anger me way more than anything else he's usually disliked for.
