Romelu Lukaku is one of three players to score 10+ goals in each of the last nine seasons in the top-five European leagues, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski. Also, he is the first player to score in each of his first five home appearances of a Serie A season with Inter since Christian Vieri, in 2002/03!

We were so slow in transitioning that of course whenever Lukaku got a ball he got surrounded, it was an awful team performance all round.

Perhaps playing every 3 days is starting to take a toll on the players. We have had too many injuries/absentees, not enough rotation and clearly Conte's style demands a lot of effort from the players.

Against Napoli, the team look tired even in the first half. Lukaku, who does not have a back up at Inter for 18 months now, is clearly feeling the fatigue. With Sanchez out till Jan, this will get worse. We need a vice Lukaku registered as soon as the window opens. Marotta needs to stop pinching pennies and act quickly for once.

Lukaku has now taken nine penalties in Serie A and scored every single one of them. He’s netted eleven from eleven spot-kicks in all competitions in an Inter shirt.

This record scares me, I have been thinking about it last two pens but didn't want to say it out loud..

Something about Marotta learning some useful skill while working with zebra thieves? Doubt it, even if he's as skillful as Moggi (which he really isn't), it won't works without the power backing of Agnelli imo.

"Penkaku just like overrated Penaldo, top 2 assholes in Serie A"

I read this and cried.

Lukaku is becoming our Penaldo. Rigaku?

edit. His "pass" to Lautaro was excellent in the goal.

He really needs to learn how to run without the ball to the right lanes.

That Hakimi pass would have been a guaranteed goal if only he managed to run further to the left. There was no concern over a defender and too much time to do so. It would have haunted us if Verona managed a later equalizer in their final attempts..

He played a lot better in the second half. What is worrisome is that the refs are calling fouls on him for the slightest thing, while the reverse isn't true.

On a side note the ESPN2 commentators said that he was one of the top strikers in Europe, by Jove.

Bad game today over the 90 minutes. He was visibly frustrated because Magnini did good work on him and his frustration made his game frustrating.

Yeah it's frustrating to watch how much fouls Lukaku needs to endure. Like that shirt pulling in the box. Not even talking about all the other shit he gets to eat without getting anything from the ref. Only because he's a big guy.

He did a lot of work today again. Played a good game in his standards, only goal was missing.

Magnini didn't have a good game. He committed numerous fouls against Lukaku, most of which not sanctioned by the referee. The moment when he finally received an yellow, Lukaku become much more visible on the field. And I blame the referee here. Every time when Salcedo was touched he gave them a foul, and in the same time Lukaku was constantly terrorized without any reaction.

Milito scored 9 goals for Inter in Europe. Eto'o scored 10. Vieri in 6 years scored 12. Lukaku in 18 months has scored 13. Only Mazzola (16), Adriano (18) and Altobelli (35) have scored more goals in Europe for Inter.

Fun fact: none of those other players ever scored an own-goal in a European final or finished last in a European group phase.

Stats are often very misleading. Anyone who wouldn't take prime Eto'o or Vieri this instant over Lukaku is out of their mind.

Chill bro. I'm not claiming Lukaku is a better player than any of those Inter legends just coz he has done 1 thing better. I am stating a fact which gives some perspective of how well Lukaku has started at Inter.

Scoring that many goals in a team that couldnt get out of the group stage only makes it better. His record is impressive, no matter how you put it.

And I dont see what scoring an own goal has to do with this.

The point I'm trying to make is that individual stats don't matter at all unless they are backed up by a winning context. Lukaku won nothing, and not only that - he is objectively to blame for us losing that EL final due to his mistake. What good are impressive individual accomplishments when your team hits a personal record of being bottom in Europe?
Even this could be overlooked if he was a guy who leads the team and single-handedly gets you a win. He not only doesn't do that, he goes to completely disappear in big games.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all these goals that he scores against shitter squads and as far as I'm concerned I'd even say that his outrageous price is now retrospectively justified. But all these stats about him come off like a desperate attempt to make him appear more detrimental and important than he really is. I can see us doing just as good on the table with virtually any other striker, even if that hypothetical striker was guaranteed to score less goals.

Lukaku simply fails to impress me. Maybe if i was a 16 year old guy on instagram who jerks off to FIFA I could fall for the dog and pony show. Alas I'm not and I can't.

Sevilla scored 3 goals from set pieces but you blame Lukaku for a deflection. Nice :palm:
