RIP Zavadszky Gįbor

NICOSIA, Jan 7 (Reuters) - Former Hungary midfielder Gabor Zavadszky died suddenly on Friday and was discovered by his Apollon Limassol team mates, police said on Saturday.

Zavadszky, 31, was found dead at home after he failed to join his team to travel to a match. Doctors believe he might have suffered a pulmonary embolism, league leaders Apollon said on their website. A post-mortem has been scheduled.

"Foul play has been ruled out," a police spokeswoman said.

Apollon called off Saturday's fixture against THOI Lakatamia as a mark of respect.

Zavadszky, formerly with Hungarian teams MTK Hungaria and Ferencvaros, signed for Apollon Limassol last year.


That's already the second time in recent years for Hungary.

I remember him signing for the club, but don't think he had played. Maybe he was using some drugs to improve himself to become a regular... RIP It's not a good sign that so many players die suddenly, either in sleep or in game! I think it's the first situation in Cyprus..

I'm sorry I didn't open this thread, but I just simply couldn't. He was one of our most popular players, not just because he was a good player, but because he was a good man.

He played for my favorite Hungarian team, Ferencvaros, and was an important member of the national team which made it to the Olympic Games in Atlanta. A great person, always smiling, always friendly and someone who was really loved by everyone.

He left a wife and two 7 year old twin boys behind.

P.s.: Reports say that his cause of death was maybe mistreation in a Cyprus hospital. On Wednesday, he suffered ligament injuries in a cup match, after which he was treated in hospital, but was quickly released. Fact is they probably forgot to give him anti-clotting medications, which are _always_ used in these types of treatments. After that, he felt weaker and weaker, and on friday evening, he fell asleep and never woke up again...

Probably you are correct. Hospitals here are too bad, that people here are afraid to get sick Especially in Limassol. There are many complaints for bad doctors or lack of doctors there... They have the best equipment in Cyprus but don't know how to use it...

The reactions of his death:
His team's Monday game was postponed for Tuesday. Before the game begun, all Hungarian players in Cyprus went in the field and left some flowers on a Hungarian flag, under his poster. One minute of silence was held in all Sunday's game(2-3 games) and off course on the Tuesday game. Saturday's game did not have a moment of silence in grieve, even if he had died on Friday. There are still many complaints from the Cypriot community to the FA and the refs.
On his team's game, they won 4-1, and after every single goal they chanted his name...(but exactly after scoring the goals, they were swearing at my team and after that they chanted his name )

P.S: It's not the first situation in Cyprus, but it's the first after a while...
