Hello Interfriends,
Inter finds its third consecutive vicotry away to Reggina today winning 2-0 in game full of suffering and out of form players on behalf of the Milan side. Reggina held this game in its grasp for the full 90 minutes but an own goal by Bonazzoli and Adriano who found the net after a month gives Inter the valuable 3 points and keeps them in the race for fourth place just one point behind Parma and Lazio.
This year's running theme is the lack of fit players that Zac can choose from at one time. It seems we always have half our players on the injured list and the other half not at 100% but must play due to the emergency. Today was no different as 10 players were not available for injury while Recoba, Karagounis and others were not fit after picking up little injuries against Benfica midweek. Helveg also got hurt after the first half hour of this match adding to the problems.
Zac brings on Pasquale to play on the left side to make the defensive line a wierd combination with Gamara, Adani and Cordoba. In the center of the pitch C. Zanetti is partnered by J. Zanetti and Stankovic with Recoba (who was not fit) behind Adriano and Martins. Reggina playing in a 3-4-1-2 formation were always in the drivers seat as Inter had too many players out of position, like Cordoba playing right back.
Reggina was playing short, defeinding in numbers and then moving forward with speed. Inter was defending with 8 players back and could never get into the game. Recoba tried to vary his position around the pitch even trying to come back deeper into midfield to find balls and launch the strikers but both Adriano or Martins never found the space to take advantage. Luck however seems to be on Inter's side as the first half ends 1-0 for Inter without even taking a shot on goal. Bonazzoli put in an own goal from a Recoba corner kick.
The second half is much of the same with Reggina holding the match and looking for the tie while Inter is pressed back and could never use the strength of Adriano or the speed of Martins. Zac changes the formation to a 4-4-2 bringing on Okan with Pasquale wide in the midfield moving J. Zanetti to the defence to help hold the lead.
Again its lady luck that helps out as Di Michele sends a scissor kick just inches over the crossbar. Cozza fails to score after a defensive mistake by Inter and then Gamarra saves off the line another shot by Cozza. All of this lead to Adriano scoring again after a month as he takes advantage of a mistake by Torrisi and Belardi to score the 2-0 goal at the 48th minute just before the final whistle making the win secure.
