You do have to give Mourinho credit. If we the fans have no idea what formation he will use next, then neither do the opposition.

I think there is almost no chance of Inter lining up against Juve as they lined up tonight. Ibra, Samuel, Maicon and Maxwell will all play, as will Zanetti, Cambiasso and Muntari, but the rest is up in the air.

We create more when we use wingers, Obinna or Balotelli could be useful against Juve, and Mancini looked pretty good last night. He should have lobbed his shot, though, instead of trying to put it low...

Agree.

Jose should get the Credit for wining this one. We didn't make any subs during break time, neither did they. Yet, on the second half we're like a different team that was playing compare with the first 45 minutes, right from the start. Something worked. And according to the interview, there were special instructions from Jose in respond to how Palermo held us initially. I'm glad we have a good tactician at helm right now.

Now don't let me jinx it and hopefully Jose will demonstrate that special skill again next week.

Don't overhype our second half performance. It all changed because Zlatan managed to score with that random shot right from the start. The match was quite different because of our lead, not so much because we did something so much differently than in the first half.

And Mou really sucks about substitutes. When we don't have the result we need, he just puts all forwards there. When we have result that we need, he keeps waiting forever.

I'm watching the match right now, on 70 min mark.

What the hell happened?

Julio Cesar

Maicon - Cordoba - Samuel - Maxwell

Cambiasso

Vieira - Muntari - Zanetti

Zlatan - Cruz

doesn't it look look familiar?
lemme change it a bit.

Viera -Cambiasso-JZ

--- Muntari

Zlatan - Cruz

Need some more hints? mid concentrated, offensive football that starts by taking possession. Its Mancio's 06 team.

I was expecting a defensive, counter relying team that depends on the wingers? Why did Mou ditch his football out? Why would we get Mourinho if we are going to play like Mancio?

Well Mancio was still king of calcio, of winning this league. We have Mou for CL and because Mancini lost his mind after losing to Pool.

We have Mou for CL, then shouldn't he work on a team that can win CL? I don't believe in making sudden drastic changes night before the CL and still winning the tournament. Don't you think Mancio doing his own football might be better than Mou trying to do Mancio? I'm willing to wait for Mou to build a team, but playing the 2 yr old tactic may mean either he gave up on his tactic and have no idea where to head, or he isn't sure of what our players are capable of and decided to check by running old formation, in any way, are very disappointing.

I think your point is valid and I also want to mention that I am a big fan of Mancio.

But, you have to understand Mourinho's position now. He tried implementing new tactics with the 4-3-3 and his 2 wingers. Fact is both the wingers have failed so far this season, but I see atleast some contribution in the future from Mancini.

On one hand Mou wants to change the tactics and mentality of our players, on the other hand he also wants to guarantee results so that we dont fall behind in the league race. You know how much media pressure is there on our coach, regardless of who is managing the team. At Inter you have to suceed IMMEDIATELY.

Matches are coming thick and fast and he doesnt have time to 'work' the players and build a team that plays exactly the way he wants. Its too risky to do that as our competitors and rivals have strengthened.

And this also isnt exactly Mancio's formation, we dont have any AM, Muntari is only ahead because he can run and press the opponents defence before they move the ball on to their midfield and bring Cuchu, Vieira and J.Z. into play.

We havent been pretty but we cant be in a better position at this time of the season. The only dissapointment I have is the loss in the derby. I honestly believe this team will start to play better if they have 10-15 days without matches to work with the coach.

Mourinho changes formation depending on how he feels its best to counter certain opponents. As he explained after the game he felt the diamond would neutralize palermo best and he was right.

Suneet and Stefan, I'm not going 'zomg, hes a copycat'. Every coach has some kind of football philosophy, and although it may change from time to time, they don't change it overnight. Ancelotti, whether he uses 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-1-2, basically stays to counter-heavy, mid concentrated team even if they are stuck at relegation zone. Spalleti plays his own football whether it wins Chelsea by 3-1 or loses to MU by 1-7. Capello, Trap, Sacchi and every other coach makes a team depending on what they believe is the best football.

If things don't work out that well, you make subs. If it still doesn't work out, you either get a new player who can do better, or make tactical adjustments during the break. If even that fails, you change coaches. Inter is not a team that makes change every match hoping to win. Wasn't this what everybody hated about Mancini? Bringing out some 'smart' formations every now and then.

I understand Mou may be having hard time with a squad that lacks pace to play defensvie and creativity to play offensive. Press writing about Mou everyday won't help either, but We made a choice to go into a certain path by buying 2 wingers instead of AM, and what we played on this day is exactly opposite of Mou's football. Moratti made a bet to chance inter in CL rather than serie A, and I believe Mou should spend every single availiable time building a team for CL even if it means risking top spot in serie A, rather than securing the top spot but making no improvments with the team.

we dont have any AM, Muntari is only ahead because he can run and press the opponents defence before they move the ball on to their midfield and bring Cuchu, Vieira and J.Z. into play.
Slower football, one-twos to take defenders out one by one, grinding goals depending on star players, plays more on mid than sides, I'd say its much closer to Mancini's football than Mou's. At least on 1st half, we were making some quick counter moves. We even lost that on the second half.

Early goal does help. But had we not ever saw INTER defends right after a goal, play safe, slow, relax, and ended-up getting backfired?

I might be a little over-hyped as it was a total contradiction to the first 45 minutes. But the way we played, kept pressing. Forced the game to be played mostly in their half. The chances we had on the second half only could've spoken by itself.

I stand by my opinion. We did play differently on the second half.

I agree that Mourinho should try to stick to his tactics, especially since Quresma and Mancini weren't cheap acquisitions, but at the same time The league is just vastly different than the CL and adjusting the tactics from game to game seems necessary.

Listening to Capello and mourinho constantly mention the tactical variation in Serie A compared to other leagues, must be taken into account. As both these figures are well experienced.

Against Palermo, Mourinho did pull a Mancini and field a similar formation to the later and just like Mancini overrelied on Ibrahimovic. But in the end it worked.

Although I highly doubt it would work in the CL, Mourinho seems keen to tinker with his tactics, which may backfire, but at the same time can also work to Mourinho's advantage.

Even if Jose would play our team week in week out, the way he wants us to play in CL, it won't be enough, as you play DIFFERENTLY in CL than in the league, and Jose said it in pre-conference.

We can play that, but it won't help us that much, because it's all about how the opposition plays, and it plays a lot different than Serie A teams play.

So while Jose is trying, to change our team, so it would fit more on a European stage, we still have to play as much "italian" game, as we can, and he is doing it alright. The changes, and adapting, it will all help the team in CL.
