The maybe is because I am not sure should we count Bellingham as a midfielder.

I've had the pleasure of watching Bellingham ever since his transfer to Dortmund. He's a #8 to the bone. Check out his whoscored page, his versus videos on youtube while with dortmund.
Not sure what point you're trying to make with these what ifs. End of the day Bellingham has performed at the highest level versus the best of the best (Bayern, Chelsea, Man City), never once looking out of place - at worst - but many times among the best players on the pitch. He's 22. Barella is 27. What high level games has he dominated, been the best player on the pitch or made a difference resulting in a win? How many games has Barella bested Rabiot? Or is the reverse true?Like if you ask Barella and Brllingham to play Jorginho's position, I can 100% guarantee you Barella would be a lot better.
Vision?
Tactical IQ? Gerrard???
How many has Barella scored?Freekicks, as in direct FKs? Gerrard? He probably scored less than 10 in his career and I trust he tried over 250...
determination to win, think competitiveness, when the ball is lost how aggressively he will work to get recover the ball. Or when a goal down how hard he will work to get the ball into an attacking position.Aggression? What does that even mean? Shall we nominiate Paolo Montero here as well?
Scoring? On how many attempts? In front of how many opponents? Surrounded by how many defenders?
Same Gerrard that had pretty much zero impact for England, aside from a few flops (vs France in 2004 the most glaring one)

Wasn't a great game for Gerrard but I remember that chase down and crunching tackle on Zidane lol
Anyway stop hating. 24-29 year old Gerrard was a world class player rivalled by few in the box-2-box role.
