Yes I understand what you mean. But what I mean city might lose both clients and they might lose all the events aswell as it would probably cost too much to maintain it.

Scenario A: both clubs go elsewhere -> Meazza won't be maintained as city cannot afford it, also loses all possible money from events (though no idea is this a relevant sum)
Scenario B: Inter stays -> city gives a nice deal to Inter but they get to keep Meazza running

I think with Scenario B is that the actual renovation which would suit Inter would cost too much but maybe if Inter would become part owner of the stadium or some similar arrangement, it could be agreed to do better renovation than what the city would do my themselves.

But as said, pure speculation by me since I don't have any credible numbers for either scenario. :D
As I understand: city of Milano will lose money on stadium when both clubs run away. Scenario B, might be win-win situation for Inter and city. Something like this: Inter lease stadium for 99 years, for some simbolic amount. Inter renovate stadium and became "owner" for 99 years. City will benefit from turist, fans... So, we have our stadium and city will not lost money keeping stadium in shape.

Inter won't renovate the Meazza, it would be expensive as building a new stadium. Milano neglected the stadium for years and even when there were minor renovations, they were done by the clubs. They took the clubs for granted and now they realize the mistake.

Yeah this is my understanding as well. They have reiterated that renovating the stadium is more expensive.

Don't know what the actual plan by the city was regarding the renovation but I'd assume it wouldn't be some 1bn€ renovation ie. polishing things here and there, some structural changes in terms of VIP boxes etc.

Personally, I would love Inter to stay at the San Siro....And Option B sounds like the best situation out of shit sandwich.

But, I have my doubts and now think Option A is the most likely to become a reality. In regards to Milano use case "city might lose both clients and they might lose all the events aswell as it would probably cost too much to maintain it."

All stadia infrastructure as far I know must be a central location, it usually is one of the primary requirements.

I am not as familiar with Milan layout, so I am not sure in relation to the City how far both Inter and Milan's Stadium will be, nor how easily thousands can get in and out of those Stadiums. And with that being said, as long as Milan continue to keep it standing I assume all major events will continue to be hosted in the San Siro.

And my point was, can the city afford to keep the stadium standing (maintain it) when the two main rentees leave and do not pour in millions of euros annually to the city anymore.

San Siro district is not in the middle of everything, you need to travel by metro there (fairly easy) but there isn't anything than just the stadium, just the match/event. No other things, nothing commercial, no entertainment, no shopping etc.

San Donato and Rozzano are further yes, but clubs/those municipalities probably want to build something around those stadiums, commercial activity. The traffic will be an issue and Sala has warned about the organizations of the match events when you need police forces etc which means technically those municipalities need to lend them from Milano. So it's a veiled threat by Sala that everything has a price.

Ideally we strike a deal with the Milano council, we restructure the stadium, we get more land in the whereabouts* to commercialize it with fancy hotels, expo/conference centers, some athletics grounds and a park for the people as that shit tends to calm down the lefties in the council and we get the stadium to a 65-70k capacity, without removing the existing, iconic two tiers but throwing the 3rd one to the trash bin. Getting more boxes and commercial areas in the two central terraces and we're good to go.

Will cost more than a new one, but it'd be god damn worth it...

Can they make it work with the sun light issue? Can they build a system to change the grass more regularly? Because the grass issue is real, we cannot play our game if the grass is full of shit half of the season.

Sun light became an issue because of the 3rd tier.

Grass just needs better gardening lol. And resolving the sunlight issue would help as well.

San Donato and Rozzano both have metro lines but they are much further out from central Milan than S Siro. S Siro also obviously has metro access but its not like it's the easiest place to get to either. The two stations aren't in the stadium or anything (they are each a few hundred meters away) and the metro line in Milan shuts down at (and often slightly before) midnight so good luck taking it after Champions League match unless you leave right away. I have been stranded after CL matches many times from this.

As other posters have said San Siro is a residential neighborhood and the stadium has absolutely nothing around it. The location isn't special so saying it has a location advantage over Rozzano is really overblown. If anything Rozzano would have more potential even if it is much further out.

Doesnt that confirm it?

If San Siro is only a little further out of the main city, but San Donato and Rozzano are even further. And because of poor transport links fans get stranded at the San Siro it only exacerbate the situation? Getting stuck because public transport has ceased operations for the night when its what 10km outside of Milan.

Even if the San Siro is the residential area, logistically this would still be the preference to host any event in Milan. Outside of football it would be good to understand how much these events actually bring in e.g Coldplay last year, and what that figure was last year, three years or even five years.

I dont see this playing out in Son Donato/Rozzano, and the assumption for Milan and Inter would be could they actually attract events when San Siro is still in play which would reduce any intake.

Any stadium, if its harder and further to get to wont have more potential, it will have less.

All in all, its a watch this space....

Yeah, it is about if city can maintain the stadium despite clubs having their own stadiums outside of Milano. If city can maintain it, they will probably have the events there as it is surely easier for people to get there in the first place. Dunno what motivation city would have to build better metro lines to Rozzano and San Donato.

Potential as in starting from the ground up. Much more space. Far far more value per euro. They will spend a billion euro to rehab san siro and area and it'll still be structurally old, congested and the disruptions while this happens will be painful and limit what they can achieve. It will a total mess and the result will be blah. I guarantee it. For the same money you can build something brand new and have much more creative freedom and control. There are so many compelling arguments why a new structure in Rozzano makes sense if you remove nostalgia and look at it objectively.

Why nostalgia needs to be removed?

Maybe it will be possible when is match day, that train has operate latter. I mean, everybody can benefit from that. 2 or 3 trains more after midnight will not hurt train company.

When it was a joint venture between Milan and Inter it was the same thing, complete rebuild but alas that ship has sailed.

And you're right in the fact a remodel with limited funds has a high chance of the overall result being "meh"

The city really fucked up this one - Milan/Inter completely rebuilding this area and turning into a comercial viable space with some form to like a spiral staircase to tribute to the history of the site would have been the best, and easiest solution. It really is inept management....

If they couldnt do it for Inter and Milan now, what makes you think they will extend it for them in future when it is further for the city?

Sala is in complete desperation zone right now, this could have been a magnificent tourist pull .

I've never had a problem getting back from San Siro after a match, even after the Bologna match that went to extra time was fine. I do usually walk to Lotto so maybe the metro is later from there than San Siro, but there are also trams and the night bus replaces the metro on the red line too.

That only came to my mind, because everybody can benefit from this. Maybe with some money in "right pocket", it will be possible. I do not know...
