And it would cost more to renovate it, probably it's not possible to renovate Meazza to make it modern. It's fucking ancient stadium with its facilities and services.

If Inter (and Milan) wants to keep it up, they need an own stadium.

Kinda lol that the new stadium misses out on the 2026 Winter Olympics by one year.

This new stadia better have a truly, truly world class pitch. So sick of the utter pish lawn at the Meazza, always absolute comedy pitch.
It's a million times better than it used it be

Honest, maybe ignorant question to the Italians here, but why does this sound like a good idea? From a romantic point of view. the Meazza/San Siro is on of the most recognizable and most beautiful stadiums in the world. And excuse me if I'm wrong, but before Covid, Inter had the highest average attendance in Italy. What are the economics in play here?
The Meazza looks great on television. It has a great atmosphere. It's also a complete dump that is incapable of producing the revenue needed for a top European club. The last time I was there, the stadium didn't even have proper concession stands. People were selling Coca Cola and bottles of water for 1€ off of a plastic, foldout table.

The most important thing for stadium atmosphere is the fans. The atmosphere of a new stadium will be great.

As much as I love the Meazza, anyone who's sat up in the terzo anello knows that its time to move on.

This is the reason for the new stadium.

I understand your attachment to Meazza. I share it. It's hard not to feel attached if you have followed the club for years and visited the stadium. But Meazza badly needs a renovation and it doesn't make sense for the clubs from a financial point of view. A new stadium is the only way for the club to remain competitive.

Explain it to me like I'm five:

When you break your phone's screen, it's better to buy a new one than fix the screen.

I'd guess the problem is that, structurally, the meazza isnt designed for all the high end corporate seats, concession stands, etc etc. This way, building new, we dont have to move to a replacement stadium for a season or two while the Meazza gets sorted - instead, we can continue to make the revenue from the Meazza, before moving into one that's ready for us.

Your analogy is backwards. For the Meazza, the facade (glass) is in tact, it’s the base/core of the phone that is broken and needs to be replaced. Can’t replace the phone and leave the glass.

The phone analogy is this: It's mostly that the Meazza doesn't allow the latest software download, meaning that you cannot open certain popular apps. Nothing to do with broken stuff.

This is a better analogy but still as relevant. You want the certain popular apps so there's really only one solution. New phone.

The popular apps in this context is corporate seat boxes ie. the revenue they generate.
