Inter and Milan sign memorandum of understanding on stadium

After the joined statement that was published on Milan's official website, Inter and Milan could both play in a San Siro totally owned by the two clubs (acquiring it from the city of Milan) as it's their first option, even if other ones could be explored too. Here's the full statement:

"A.C. Milan S.p.A. and F.C. Internazionale Milano S.p.A. announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding formalising their willingness to work together on the project for a modern, state-of-the-art stadium.

An infrastructure adapted to current standards is paramount to delivering a world-class fan experience, as well as on-and-off-the pitch success. The Clubs believe that a shared stadium will serve in the best interests of all stakeholders from a financial, administrative and technical perspective, and are evaluating several possible options, including a complete renovation of the existing San Siro Stadium. A joint task-force to analyse all options accordingly has also been re-established.

The Clubs aim to conclude an initial evaluation phase by the end of the year, in order to commence the technical and administrative activities required to deliver a modern stadium to their fans in the shortest possible timeframe.

Today the two Clubs met with the Mayor of Milano re-opening a constructive and productive dialogue with the objective of examining in more detail the option of a redevelopment of the area around San Siro".

I was wondering - where are we going to play if/when they begin the renovations? Atalanta's stadium in Bergamo? Or they will look to close and work on different sectors, which will be a logistical nightmare as well?

This is quite sad. I was hoping AC Milan moved somewhere and Inter will own whole Meaaza by itself.

The fact that we are still working on a stadium agreement with Bilan is just hillarious.

I can see us still discussing this in 10 years time.

The most hilarious thing will be if we move to a new stadium which we'll still have to share with Milan. I understand we want them to share the costs but this really sucks. I don't want Inter's stadium to be connected with Milan in any way.

Well it looks like we are destined to be alongside our cousins forever. I hope we can do sth like what Bayern did with Allianz Arena and Munchen 1860.

And this should commence much quicker- we have two foreign owners who can come to mutual agreement much quicker than Berlu and MM.

Perfect timing for a Chinese and a US firm to come to a speedy solution

The statement from our side:

FC INTERNAZIONALE AND AC MILAN SIGN MOU ON STADIUM REDEVELOPMENT
The two teams from Milan will work together on looking to develop a shared modern stadium

MILAN - F.C. Internazionale Milano S.p.A. and A.C. Milan S.p.A. can confirm that they’ve set forth a memorandum of understanding to work together on developing a modern and avant-garde stadium.

A stadium adapted to current standards is fundamental in allowing fans to enjoy a unique experience and to guarantee success both on and off the pitch. The two clubs believe that a shared stadium is of primary interest to all stakeholders from a financial, administrative and technical point of view. The two clubs are evaluating a number of possible options, including the redevelopment of the Stadio San Siro. A collaborative group has already restarted the analysis of different alternatives.

The clubs are aiming to conclude this first exploratory phase by the end of 2018. This will allow them to proceed with the necessary planning and administrative requirements, aiming to provide fans with a modern stadium in the shortest time possible.

Yesterday the two clubs met with the Mayor, reopening a constructive and productive dialogue with the aim of looking further at re-modernising the area around San Siro.

I don't mind sharing the San Siro stadium. What I do mind is leaving it to share a stadium with Milan. Let them leave it and we can keep it to ourselves.

Milan clubs plan San Siro renovation

It’s believed Milan and Inter’s priority is a €200m renovation of San Siro, reducing the capacity and adding commercial space.

Last week the two clubs officially confirmed that they are exploring options for a shared stadium project, likely a redevelopment of the Giuseppe Meazza.

Now Il Sole 24 Ore confirms that the intention is to lease the land from the city council for 99 years, rather than renting the stadium.

That is similar to what Juventus did when they built their new stadium, and would allow the clubs to save on the cost of building an entire new arena while ensuring the council doesn’t lose out on the revenue they currently make.

The project will be similar to the one the Nerazzurri had planned in 2015, and will see the stadium completely renovated over a four year period.

The top tier seating will be removed, reducing the capacity to 65,000 people, and used for catering and commercial activities.

The total cost should be around €200m, which would be divided between Inter, Milan and the city council.

That will be offset by selling the naming rights to the stadium, just as Juventus Stadium became Allianz Stadium - outside of UEFA and FIFA competition - last year.

With the increase in crowds for both teams in recent years, revenues from the stadium are projected at €100m each per season.

That would be well in advance of the €55m Juve earn from their stadium, which is already more than double that of the Milan clubs currently.

So how this leasing is more beneficial for us? If the city council is still not losing money in this deal, it means we are still pouring same money to them?

Or is the lease money only thing going to city council and then the clubs can do whatever they want with the stadium? All the possible money generated related to stadium is just Inter's ja Milan's business?

At least the numbers sound good. I believe our annual revenue from match days are 30m€. So 100m€ definitely sound better, that number most probably includes match day revenues + other commercial revenues from the new stadium.

Great news if this happen!

The best solution for both clubs and I have no problem share the stadium with Milan, just like we have shared the stadium now for years.

Both clubs will share constuction bills and a lease bill and running costs for the stadium. So win win for both teams and both teams will increase income with a split payments and will get historicaly important stadium.

I'd still prefer it if we somehow managed to fuck Milan off and become sole owners :work:

This is a comment from reddit so take it how you will.

“The plan is to continue with the current ground with extent modernization. Here are a few key points:

I think renovating the Meazza is bullshit, even with Milan agreeing to split the bill. I understand the history and the fact that we have shared our home and had many special nights at the Meazza but this agreement to move forward does not help us in any way.

Reason: it does not solve the problem of ownership. The stadium is still owned by the local council which means the money made on the gate does not go in its entirety to either Inter or Milan, it has to be split with the council. That is our biggest problem and it ensures that we in no way can compete with Juventus who own their own stadium and accordingly take 100% of gat4e earnings.

Personally, this is the one single problem that continues to hold back Italian football and ensure that it cannot compete with the Premier League and La Liga.

I think the lease will be for the actual land, which means no more rent payment and no more gate money. Thats why i said a 99 year lease is basically like buying the stadium.
