Gotta love picking up a world class player for free, even if he's towards/at the end of his career. Will be curious to learn what the contract details. Here's hoping he can contribute half of what Lucio did after joining Inter (tho Lucio was ~2 years younger than Vidic when he joined).

Don't really know what to expect given his age, but really hopeful he will at the very least tighten up the defense so we can get 3rd next year. Welcome to Inter Nemanja!

Vidic has lost pace, and is injured too often for me to be excited about this transfer. The best we can hope for is that he plays most of the games in the next season or two. Its a short term "quick-fix" solution for our defense, not necessarily a bad move, but nothing to be excited about either.

I am more interested to see who we get to replace Milito, Cambiasso and Zanetti next season. This is where we need 3 top class signings.

One of my most admired aswell. His tenacity to win the ball has been a pleasure to watch.

And his bravery is next to none.

From SAF's book..

The culture of our game has changed. How many centre-halves can you name who actually like
defending? Vidić liked it. He loved the challenge of sticking his head in there. You could tell that the
thrill of contesting those 50–50 balls animated him. Smalling is a bit like that: he enjoys defending.
Vidić was a dour, uncompromising sod. He was a proud Serb. In 2009 he came to see me to say he
might be getting called up.
‘What do you mean, called up?’ I said, alarmed.
‘Kosovo. I am going,’ he said. ‘It’s my duty.’
He had the eyes for it.

He's looked very shaky this season, I hope he'll have some form of reawakening here. Hopefully he's not finished yet.

This is what MU fans thought about him

"I know it's your opinion and I can respect that but in my defence No just No. Vidic is a defensive titan with supreme intelligence. He's a more natural defender than Rio Ferdinand. He's not reactive at all instead he's one of the most proactive defenders in the world. Out of Rio and Vida, the latter is always the one who attempts to clear the ball first, and Rio acts as a vaccum of sorts. Rio is some way behind Vida's level purely as a defender. Before Vidic arrived in 2005 we had a horrible defence even when Ferdinand was fit or not banned. We finally had a settled look about our defence since the sale of Stam from 2006 onwards. Vidic and Evra were the catalysts for that. Infact if you delve deeper Vida wasn't just brilliant at United, he was magnificent even for the Serbia and Motenegro team. He was the heart behind the Famous Four of Vidic, Drgutinovic, Gavrancic and Krstajic that conceded just 1 goal in 10 World Cup qualifier matches. At his peak from 2006-2011 he was everything a defender could ever hope for. He's like a Roy Keane in defence. Jonny Evans will never be even close to Vida's levels. And you can quote me on that. It's the same mistake we made selling Stam while having Brown, Silvestre, O'Shea as future options. You don't have to take my words on Vida being better than Ferdinand but history does't lie. Vidic has been the only defender in Manchester United history apart from Jaap Stam to have been shortlisted for the Ballon D'Or - and not just once. No. But twice. That's how good a defender he is. Just because Rio Ferdinand is more comfortable in possession doesn't make him as good or more intelligent of a defender as than Vidic. We were lucky to have had him for almost 9 years. Let's not tarnish his legacy by falsifying his greatness."

just his presence on the field... i could not care less about anything else... just having a beast as your teammate makes you a better player, confidence sky high, etc.. <3

I guess nothing in life is ever really "free"...

From Daily Mail article (link):

"[His deal is reported to be worth] the equivalent of around £6m each season, before tax and other deductions, and means he will have earned close on £20m (25m EUR) by the time he finishes his San Siro contract"

The question is how good is he now? Lucio was also a WC defender at the time but everyone wanted him gone few years ago. So it is pointless to talk about how good he has been before. His stats in the past few years don't look so good, he hasn't able to play so many games.

Free transfer ok but his salary is gonna be higher than Chivu's. Wish him luck (I think he will need it) but I am not that excited about this transfer. If it takes one year to get adjusted to Serie A then thats about it.

It's easier for defenders to adjust in serie a (and besides the league's quality has gone down hill like hell so it doesn't require much to become a regular one in serie a)

Vidic should be a nice signing although he's on his late years, but feels like a player like him can still offer a lot for the team, and like some people mentioned above in the posts that he could be an example for the youngsters. He's a leader, and also known for his grinta, so it's not a bad one after all

6mil a season thats 6.5EUR. apparently before tax? 26mil EUR over 2 seasons after tax

any conformation on that? as that is totally ludicrous, as in more than Wes was costing us

im not bothered if old players come to inter for free and then on low wages but paying that for a 32 year old (will be 33 in october) is fucking retarted
