Pajo's okayed me opening a thread where I can index all my articles for people who are interested. These aren't block copied off other sites or anything, they're all articles I've written for Inter on this specific website (& not posted anywhere else). Feedback is always welcome, and please feel free to share (preferably linking back to the original) anything with friends who have an interest in any aspect of them

As a writer my aim will be to provide my own insight into, for example, how things should be run, or how various systems could be overhauled to significantly increase their effectiveness. I also aim to provide analysis and insight on whatever topics I cover, rather than just regurgitating facts (as a lot of football 'analysis' websites do). I will also try my best to cover the youth section of Inter as this particularly interests me - with player recommendations, coverage of the Primavera + lower teams, and updates on our youth project.

You'd be a fool to take it all as gospel, and a fool to take it all as BS. Where you draw the line is up to you. Just read what I have to say, form your own arguments, and decide where you stand on the fence.

Not sure I can write a whole article on that. I don't see any leaders in the current team aside from Cambiasso, and I think Zanetti will extend past this season. He's in great form still and there's no need for him to go.

Hopefully one of the newer arrivals might be able to take up the mantle, but I don't see anyone senior who can fill the role

Hi Browha, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your articles as they have provided me with great information on how some aspects of the youth team works in our beloved Inter.

My question, and this may become a subject you may address one day; our youth philosophy.

I'm not talking about what you already discussed in your "Youth training & Inter, what we lack" and the proposed solutions, even though it did shed some light. My inquiry is about what type of playing style/identity are we implementing in the youth division and what type of players have we been targeting in these couple of years?

hey

i have to say, thats a pretty killer question.

so, the answer will be i think slightly disappointing for you..
all the worlds best academies, of course, conform to a playing style. at ajax, subsequently copied by barca, the formation played is standard from the youngest level to the highest level. this allows players to know their exact tactical role when slotting into ann unfamiliar team - which, imho, is one of the reasons why players like bojan or giovani look better than they are at a club like Barca.

now, of course, this is still lacking at inter. i did seem to see that more of the youth teams were conforming to something like the mourinho 4-2-3-1, primavera and down last season. but alas, that doesnt really seem to be the case anymore. the primavera still conforms to it, but i do not like bernazzini's implementation of it comparead to how stramaccioni utilized it. bernazzini seems to be a solid believer in the long ball, and the comparative skill of our midfield in olsen, duncan, benassi, acampora, tassi, etc, is like playing long ball at barcelona. okay, thats obviously an exaggeration, but the skill level of these players - especially on the ball - is huge, and yet we arent utilizing it. you're far more likely to see a ball pumped up fromo defense looking for belloni and garritano to chase it down, than you are to see a slick passing game through the centre. this seems to be, more than anything, a mentality issue on this level of football at inter.

moving on to the next question, recently we have clearly been making a big push for ball playing midfielders, and generally more technically competent people. as wenger puts it, you can judge the technical competence of a young player by age 14. e.g. most, if not all, of the real technical skills they will have by the time they are 14, and the rest of it is just bringing it out of them with confidence. this has resulted in a huge change in how our youth system works of late. the primavera signings are of course the most head line, but where you should actually look is towards the u-14 and so categories. in italy, you arent allowed to move clubs before 14 (the regional restrictions apply), so we have quite a lot of players on the books of clubs like chievo, where they are waiting to hit the right age before moving. now, if you look at some of these - and i will cite taufner, opoku, tassi, and olsen as the big examples - the mindset we are going in for players is clear. we're looking for highly skillful players, who 'look good' on the ball, if you know what i mean. they are the players who have 3-4 seconds more than anyone else on the ball, who are the people always looking for passes, who are the ones who have the superior first touches and so on.

so, what i would say is that - whilst we are part of the way there, in having the right players - our utilization right now of them is very disappointing. we need to implement more ball playing formations, rather than using the stoke technique (basically), and actually allow these players to express themselves. because if we do not trust people like olsen and tassi to express themselves on the football pitch at primavera, whats the chance of us trusting them to do it on the first team level?

Since, like many other Inter supporters here, I couldn't watch the Primavera under Stramaccioni regularly, can you please describe the style of play he used in his time there? Did he implement a mentality that already exist in the club or did he bring something of his own to the team?
