I think it's time we do a rebuild. Next summer is the perfect year to ditch the 3 at the back and go for a coach who can play a 4.

Gosens will leave and dumfries not too enough darmian another year older and not good enough. Bellanova has potential but not good enough, so we already need 2/3 wingbacks of much better quality

Barella broz and hakan are fine in a 3 but we need depth.

We're 3 points from top 4,its not super unlikely. However, if we don't start winning big games then we are fucked.

There are matchups where the winner is NOT Real/City/Bayern level opponent. Milan-Spurs, Benfica-Brugge, Dortmund-Chelsea.

I think sticking to this formation makes no sense with average wingbacks like Dimarco, Dumfries, Darmian etc.

In theory it's a good formation. The midfield is packed with different types of midfielders and you have wing backs running up and down the pitch to both defend and attack. But it's not all that simple to make it work. It's not a surprise that few elite teams, if any, use it. There are Conte and Limone religiously follow it but that's it. Other guys like Tuchel, Potter etc. play with 3 at the back sometimes or more often but a bit different, 4 in the midfield and 3 upfront or some other variation of this.

I have expressed my opinion on this for a while. If Inzaghi isn't at Inter next season then it's time to ditch back 3, especially if one of Skriniar and De Vrij leaves at the end of the season. Sticking with a back 3 to bring who? Juric? Sticking with a back 3 would limit our coaching options a lot. I can understand going for a back 3 when you hire a top coach like Conte but sticking to it only because players are familiar with it makes no sense. We don't have the right personnel for it anymore. We need a fast ball playing rcb, a starting lwb (potentially one for the right side too), a starting forward to pair him with Lautaro. And this doesn't even include our needs for the bench (two side cbs, 1-2 CMs, backup forward, backup ss). And that's only if we don't sell any starter else we could need even more.

So even if we decide to stick with a back 3 it's not like it's gonna be cheap either. Squad needs a rebuild. Even if we chose to extend all our veterans we would just delay the inevitable.

I know people will argue signing wingers will be expensive. I hear you. Therefore, the transition could be gradual by switching to 4-3-1-2 at first. We don't even need that much for the formation.

We would buy a player for the left and a forward for 3-5-2 either way so the extra addition is just an AM. Instead in cbs we would only need backups.

This is true. Dumfries and Dimarco are good but not enough to be so important in the offense. So that leaves basically the 2 strikers too alone to create.
3-5-2 made sense with Hakimi and Perisic, with current ones doesn't.

It doesn't matter if its 3 ATB or 4 ATB, both are good formations in a good hand. What matters is if we have enough fund to reinforce our squad. There is no point to theorycraft who will depart or arrive if Suning is out of money and we decide to self-amputate again for 3 years in row.
