Martin Montoya says he “didn’t feel like a footballer” during his loan spell at Inter.

The right-back completed a loan move to Real Betis on transfer deadline day, having made just three Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri after arriving on loan from Barcelona.

“My adventure in Italy didn’t come at the best moment of my career,” Montoya said as he was presented at Betis.

“When I had the opportunity to come here I didn’t think twice. I’ve come here to feel like a footballer, which I haven’t been able to do in the last six months.”

We felt the same way about you, Martin.

Did he feel like a footballer making basketball shots in practice with his feet? Sitting front row while Dani Alves ran up and down the right flank? Or only being benched at Inter makes you feel like you're not a footballer.

Inter was obviously different than Barca for him. At Barca he'd eat bench but he'd still win trophies while at Inter there's almost zero chance for trophies. No wonder he likes Barca.

I felt the same as Montoya. Never felt he was a footballer.

Still can't believe we signed Montoya, even if only on loan. Six predictably worthless months later, he's gone, and only a mutual bad memory remains. Montoya was always going to be a backup. But when you have only mediocre right backs, you don't go sign another one for squad depth  you go and you sign a high quality player to start, not more of the same mediocrity. The money spent paying his wages, and the €2m(?) loan fee would have been better spent on hamburgers and crack for the players. And don't say it's not a big amount. When we sell our best young talent due to a lack of funds, but regularly blow a few million on the Montoya's of the world, you get another glaring view of how bad our money-management is. Just another chapter in the ever-growing encyclopedia of bad, but more crucially, obviously needless transfers.

FC Barcelona and the player Martín Montoya have agreed to cancel the contract between both parties.

FC Barcelona wish the player great success in the next stage of his professional career.

Martín Montoya leaves FC Barcelona after three seasons with the blaugrana first team which included loan spells at Inter Milan and Betis. The defender made 66 appearances for Barça, scoring twice and made his debut on 26 February in a 3-0 win over Mallorca.

Has signed for Valencia following a mutual termination.
