I'm hoping we could use this thread for the discussion that has taken over the midfielders thread. Maybe the mods/admins could move the posts into this thread, as well.

The question is, is it necessary to have players, like Balotelli, that will sell jerseys and build Inter as a brand, even if it doesn't result in wins on the field.

I think so. So many of you forget that a huge number of us wouldn't be here talking about Inter if it wasn't for Ronaldo. Sure, it didn't translate into wins, but people loved him, and were drawn to Inter. Famous, skillful, and likable players like him and Balotelli are crucial towards creating a worldwide brand and large fanbase.

I believe you can create your own. You don't need the unprofesional ones like balo to be marketable. For instance I am 100% sure if I were the inter marketing manager I could create a santon-coutinho brand.

Its good to have marketable players but they need to fit with the teams plans and you can't keep a player to the detriment of the team just because he is marketable.

My heart don't like it.

I love the team last season, one of the most underrated ones of all time, without a single star in the team and full of humble players like Capitano, Cambiasso & Milito.

I agree though that having a marketable player, a Beckham let's say, is important to build up the club's image so future stars are more attracted to Inter. But really, I'm reluctant to adopt that policy.

Last season it seemed as if we had a team full of rejects eto and sneijder forced out of their clubs, pandev recieving no playing time at lazio, motta and milito not deemed good enough for top clubs. Then in the past cambiasso and samuel kicked out of madrid in earlier years. Last years team was filled with players who were hungry, players that had something to prove.

But anyway this year we created stars, it wont be the same as last year. Sneijder, milito and maicon are now thought of as world class.

In Sneijder we have someone who could market the club 10x more than SMB....seriously the guy could be named FIFA ballon dor winner...last years CL win has created stars out of certain players....Lets get one superstar or 2 but only if they come at the right price, dont have behavioural or mentality issues and will not unbalance the team tactically.

Coutinho will be our new marketable player... He's a bit of a stereotype Brazilian footballer, he's a number 10 player, great dribbler, names ends with -inho, PLUS he's more likeable than many other Brazilians. In a few years, everyone will love him :D

i think the league should improve first.from the way serie A is run even if we buy someone like Ronaldo or Messi their stardom status would start to decline.what i am saying is though we have good players they wont be able to attract fans.for example Milito has had a great season he got skills but you hear no one except inter fans talking about him.guys like van persie are more famous because the EPL attract more fans.and Italian league used to be the best at the time Ronaldo played for Inter

The new serie a league is taking positive steps but it will take time. Its a great move that they split from serie b now they can only concentrate on whats good for serie a like what happended in england in 1992 when the epl was formed.
