He's not very big at 5' 9" (1.76m) but pretty thick -165 lbs (75 kg). I only saw a YouTube compilation of him, which obviously made him look really good. What I really liked from the video is what looked like a wide range of skills. Another thing noticeable in the video is a passion and fire in his game. He mixes it up and could spark a fire in the side, while at the same time could mean he's a disciplinary problem.

He looks like he has a fairly strong work-rate might be capable of playing box to box. Showed him hold up the ball and attack the goal against average to poor competition. A few nice takeaways and defensive reads as well, but it focused more on his skill on the ball, which is considerable.

I'm sure he lacks the same level of consistency in his game, but he reminds me a bit of Gattuso, with way more offensive flare but everything still to prove. If he can be anything close to the defensive player along the lines of Gattuso, or even Muntari, Fernandes could be very valuable for us.

Loan with an option is ideal, but an outright buy wouldn't be horrible. Assuming we remain in Coppa, he will likely get fair share of minutes and is still very young. I like it a lot and hope it's true.

What you guys say makes me feel good about this guy.

Hopefully he stays injury free, as it seems that was the major problem for him (and the coach issues).

Also from the economic point of view it was a very good deal.

Also, given the article Sakana posted, it seems like he would not agree to the move unless the team planned to play him a lot, as he wants to be in the Portugal squad for the WC.

Is it a loan deal with option to buy?
That would be the best option for Inter

Well, he won't be guaranteed a first team spot at the biggest club in Italy. That's for sure...

I assume they have agreed option-to-buy transfer fee. There's been no mention about it, but at one forum one guy reported this deal and said the fee would be 12m€. Don't know about that and don't know how permanent that kind of redemption fee really is. Maybe Inter and Valencia will negotiate eventually if Inter wants this player. I don't know.

From this forum, Everton fan told me this:

"At his best, Fernandes is skilled and creative player, who can be a deciding factor with his personal performances. At his worst, he sulks and jogs on the pitch totally outside of the game taking part in the game only when the ball is played to his feet.

Fernandes' most proper position is the center of the midfield, even if he played pretty much on the wing at Everton. That's because Moyes (coach) didn't think he was active enough in defending. As a wing player, Fernandes is straightforward. He will go past his marker only with a nice trick, with running it's not possible."

I'm happy we ended up with Fernandes, and precisely loan move. Now we can check how good can he be, and Mourinho surely puts him to a role where he has to defend. If he can pass that test, it's good at least for his future, even if Inter decides not to buy him permanently.

Yeah but like Luka mentioned. He has to earn his spot. Mourinho will put him on a real test, that's for sure.

The deffending part is something I'm worried about, and this "he will go past his marker only with a nice trick".

We already have a dude like that...

Hopefully Italy will not again fail another "flashy boy". Figo was amazing dribller, if we only got him when he was like 25 he would be a beast for us.

If he will not be able to deffend properly and have good tactical sense, he will not play in midfield under Jose. That is 100%.

Many fans have said that he is good in defense and with Cambiasso and Zanetti around him he will soon learn to be anyway.

Well, the translation I did was not perfect in a sense that I could give you guys all the nuances. :D

What I understood from him was that he's not that fast, if played on the wing. And in England, you have to be fast, if you want to succeed on the flank. But I think that just speaks more for the fact Fernandes should be played on a central position.

I'm also concerned how his defending will turn out to be. But given his situation, he wants to make it to the World Cup and so on, he must give his all if he wants to impress Mourinho. And that way get some playing time. And impressing Mourinho requires lot of work, especially on the middle of the park. :)

However, since this is only a loan deal and Fernandes wants to get the hell out of Valencia anyway, he has to play well and work hard to get to WC and have his transfer in the summer, whenever that transfer will lead to.

Contradictory storries, o_O :p

I hope you're the one who is right though ;)

Kinda excited to see what he can do. I don't think he will have confidence issues, and the other good thing, is that he played in England and apparently his nice trics worked there, so he shouldn't have a stumble block like Quaresma here.

If he will be here tomorrow, he might end up at the bench for Parma, maybe getting 15 minutes, if the result is right.

Looking forward to it...

That is deffinetly a plus for us. He shouldn't show a lack of motivation.
