With the season (thankfully) starting next week, I think a thread is in order. Today I'll be going to the grand opening of the new Red Bull Arena, where Red Bull will be playing Santos.

The official start to the season is no longer at risk, since a new labor deal has been reached.

Beckham is out, Landon is back, and the Philadelphia Union are new. It should be a good season.

I've lived in the states 7 years and I haven't watched a full 90 minute match yet. I mean its too painful. It's not that they're bad players, its just that the quality of football is non-existent.

I have lived in the United States my entire life and I don't think I have watched a full match on TV. The only full MLS matches I have seen, are the ones that I attended...

I've watched a few matches...mostly just to fulfill my football needs. Seattle is kind of a fun team to watch with Montero and Ljungberg playing.

Red Bulls just beat Seattle. None of you will believe me, but I was on the edge of my seat. It was the Bulls' first win away from home since 2008, and only Seattle's 3rd home loss. Seems like New York is actually gonna be competitive this year. Pleasant surprise.

The word Soccer is not an American word. Its a British word that is as old as the game itself. Most English speaking countries outside of the UK refer to the sport as soccer, not just America. Even in the UK two of their main saturday football programs use the word soccer, ie Soccer AM and Gillette Soccer Saturday

The majority of people here in Ireland call it soccer as well.

I'll open a thread in other sports so we don't annoy those who follow the MLS, but James hurling is the classier wing of the GAA, Gaelic Football is only for counties that can't make a fist of the real stuff...
