Fair point, I was being rather hopeful, I mean all we need is one more quality midfielder, the right kind and we're contenders.
We all know that, but you can't buy a player like that in the winter, can you?

There will be time for that in the summer.

Last year we bought Lucio, Sneijder, Milito, Eto'o, Motta. That's a lot of first team material, that needs binding. Doing everything in one summer could do more harm than good.

I think we're doing a smart thing, by gradully, year by year improving the overal quality of the team.

If we look at what kind of players we have on the bench right now, to the ones we had like 3, 4 years ago I think we would see a big difference.

We all know we need a left back, a world class midfielder, and maybe a young center back, and we're pretty much set.

We could buy a decent offensive midfielder as a sub for Sneijder, but Coutinho will come and with Pandev there I think we might have adequate cover just in case, and at the same time Coutinho might get some playing time here and there.

At the moment we're barely scraping by. In anycase, my question was, what was the point of this signing. I remember you defended the signing of Arna, but again what was the point.
I defended signing Arna, because he seemed like a player worth looking into, and it was just a loan. We didn't risk anything.

I'm not entusiastic anymore, but it was worth to give it a shot, and to be fair he had health issues for a long time, and also he had to get his head straight to be considered by Mourinho, which he appaerntly did, because he got call ups regularly lately, and got to play in Siena game.

As for the point of signing a squad player (Mariga) was exaclty that. To sign a squad player in a spot that Vieira left.

We have Krhin and in spite of the numerous injuries we have endured, he has hardly played. Not even in Coppa. So what's teh point?
Krhin needs more time apparently.

But he got injured recently. I think he had a good shot at the coppa italia game if he just didn't injure himself. Lets not forget, he already got couple of late subs before christmas.

I think that if he will train hard he will get a shot along the way this season. He might not win a first team spot, but he might start in couple of easier games.

What I find amazing is that, for a player wanted by so many big clubs, there is such little video footage/print stuff out on internet!

Everybody, even the Parma forums, just mention that he is good and the next Essien/Vieira.....but doesnt give anything more specific!

Haha gotta love Nyall's enthusiasm :p :D

Well as for the question about what he could give to Inter, well, he does give us more physicality which we lacked in midfield considering the fact that the physical size of our squad was decreasing and our midfield is relatively small. Also he seems like a fast player, may be a good box to box midfielder, a fighter who can contribute to our game both offensively and defensively. His shot is not too shabby either from the bit I've seen of him, he's still 22 he attracted the likes of United in the summer I think we should give him a bloody chance before we say crap buy

Did i say he was crap? From what i've seen, he's decent physical, but nothing impressive. In fact I rate Parma's young DMF Lunardini. Our midfield is relatively small? compared with whom, Napoli (gargano-pazienza)? And since when does size matter, look at Arsenal for example. Mou might prefer it, but time and time again it has been proven time and time over that size guarantees nothing. And what's wrong with Motta and Muntari? Zanetti can go up and against taller and heavier any day of the week. What we need and are clearly lacking is a passer in midfield. Maringa isn't much of a passer (he is Kenya's playmaker however) so is clearly not an improvement on our current squad. Don't think I just hate the guy for the sake of it, I am after all Kenyan, it's just that his signing doesn't make sense to me. Why not give Krhin more 1st opportunities, he has impressed so far. Why?

Guys check this out....this is the biggest compilation that I have come across. I like this guy...he is tall and powerful and has good skills with a good powerful shot. Man he really has strong physical presence but that doesnt seem to affect his agility! Physically, he looks like Didier Drogba with almost the same height and weight!

Also, it seems that Portsmouth (Harry Redknapp) wanted him at the start of last season, (not the summer gone by) and also at that time it was expected that visa issues had come up!

The thing that I am looking forward to is that he is a leader of his NT, and is a big role model. So I expect him to have a very balanced head on his shoulders. I think this is also going to make Inter the 1st choice for any further world class player from Kenya!

I am now beginning to get really really excited about him!

PS: My concern is how well has he recuperated from his injury late last year!

Do you think that if Krhin was ready to start couple (or even one) of games for us, wouldn't Jose give him a chance just like Santon got his?

Krhin is still a primavera guy, and we needed a player who we could already put into a line-up if there was a need for it. Mariga played constantly and he showed at Parma he is ready for Serie A level. We don't know if Krhin is ready yet, simply because he never even started for us, and when he did play, he was cool, but he didn't exactly did something amazing. How he has impressed so far then? Where do you get this conclusion?

If we would see him doing something great whenever he was on the pitch, and yet he wouldn't be played by Mourinho we could assume he is punishing the boy for something, and is not playing him on purpose, but so far we've seen Mourinho is pretty fair coach. If you deserve to play, you will play.

Jose doesn't want to loose Krhin, if we made him available for sale there would be problem a dozen of teams interested in him. We have to be patient with our youngsters, give them time to improve and wait for their chances.

They won't have it as easy as they would have it at Parma, but if we come across someone special like Balotelli or Santon, they will get their chance.

I dont know if this makes a diff or not, but playing for a team although playing in top league Serie A, if languishing at bottom:
1. lack of winning mentality
2. picking up the wrong habits or work ethics
3. failure to have a say in player development

Well you have a point.

We have many players for those lower positions in midfield, only Sneijder to our AM position.

Cambiasso, Zanetti, Stankovic, Muntari, Motta, Mariga, Krhin. 7 players to 3 positions. Not optimal since two of them have to sit on the stands if everyone are healthy.

Then we still need at least one starting material player, a leader who can play the ball in midfield. So that makes the number to 8. Involuntarily it comes to my mind that are we going to ship someone?

Still doesn't explain the signing of Mariga. He we could've signed Poli of Sampdoria, that would have made a bit of a difference. But another non-technical player :depress:

Last year we bought Lucio, Sneijder, Milito, Eto'o, Motta. That's a lot of first team material, that needs binding. Doing everything in one summer could do more harm than good.
So could signing a player like Mariga who'll most likely manage a handful of opportunities.

I think we're doing a smart thing, by gradully, year by year improving the overal quality of the team.
Doesn't look that way to me. You don't sign quality players without a plan in mind. We have 2 box-to-box players, why not sign a technical passer type of player? There's plenty out there, Dzemali, Poli to name a few.

I defended signing Arna, because he seemed like a player worth looking into, and it was just a loan. We didn't risk anything.
Certainly worth a gander but not much more. We could've spent that time looking at CMFs we could sing immediately or in the winter break. SO much wasted effort :depress:

As for the point of signing a squad player (Mariga) was exaclty that. To sign a squad player in a spot that Vieira left.
Does Mariga know this  What was wrong with Krhin anyway. A DMF doesn't need to be big and physical. They're lesser quality mids out there than Krhin in a starting 11. We could at least loan him out if we didn't consider him ready.:irritate:

As far as I know Mariga won with Parma promotion last year, so he does know how to win. And Parma was one of the revelation of the Serie A for some time, with Mariga being their best player, from what I've read.

As for wrong habits/work ethics I don't know, but african players are usually hard workers, and the last thing they lack is work ethics, but maybe I'm wrong.

oh please, Essien was already good, world class even, otherwise why esle did Chelsea pay 30 mil for him?? All Mou did was put in the starting line up. Essien did the rest. Quality player.
