Free agent Mariga back at Parma

Parma are set to sign free agent McDonald Mariga after he was spotted training with the squad today.

The transfer deadline has passed, but clubs can still sign players who are currently out of contract.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Mariga was training with the Parma players at Collecchio this afternoon.

The 27-year-old Kenya international is a free agent after his contract with Inter expired in July.

He had several spells in a Parma jersey, from July 2008 to January 2010, then returned on loan from Inter in January 2012 for six months and all of last season.

What a blast from the past. This guy was actually a Treble winner with us. I remember him also looking decent to start the 2010/2011 season - I kind of forgot what happened with him at this point.

Catastrophic knee injuries essentially. Coupled with general squad turbulence as we plummeted head first into a near decade long banter aeon.

He had a great season in Serie B with Parma in 09 which is why we bought him and he had the odd encouraging cameo in the treble season. Was hoping to see more of him in Benitez's double pivot after we failed (or chose not) to purchase Mascherano to play along Cambiasso but we all know how things went under Benitez.
