With two wins in a row under new boss Serse Cosmi, the question is can Livorno stop the juggernaut that is Italian champions Inter.

The Amaranto proved their victory over Roma on Sunday wasn’t a fluke by beating a resurgent Atalanta 1-0 on Wednesday night. They are now off the foot of the table and just a point away from safety, although few will give them a chance against Inter.

However, it’s fair to say Cosmi will offer Jose Mourinho a different challenge to what he is used to in the Italian top flight. Beneath the baseball cap and the gravel voice there is a really talented tactician who led Perugia into Europe not too long ago.

Cosmi is famous throughout Italy for leading Perugia to their first victory at San Siro against Milan. Can he guide Livorno to a similar feat at home to Inter? The smart money definitely says no. Inter have recovered a number of players from injury and are approaching full strength as demonstrated on Thursday night.

The Nerazzurri raced to a 4-0 lead against Palermo, practically making sure of their four point lead at the top of Serie A. However, Palermo mounted a thrilling second half comeback, bringing the score back to 4-3 before Diego Milito came off the bench to secure the points for Inter by scoring a fifth.

That will give Livorno some hope, although the return of Eto’o and Milito means Inter are once again at full strength in the final third of the pitch.

Keep an eye on: Antonio Candreva (Livorno) – One of the brightest talents in the Italian game, the 22-year-old Candreva is a versatile little playmaker, who can sit in front of the defence or behind the strikers. His creative instincts will be crucial in deciding whether the Amaranto remain in the top flight.

Santon will start, Vieira will start. Probably Motta and Milito will start also. What about Maicon? He has been playing so much recently. And knowing his mentality in these less glamorous matches, specially just before the very glamorous CL clash, I'd bench him.

Lucarelli is suspended, but they have Tavano there. He's quick and that's why Lucio-Matrix is not the best solution, which I thought first before realised they have Tavano. But Cordoba got burned pretty bad yesterday so don't know about that either. Probably Lucio will be back nevertheless, but no idea who will be the other CB.

Vieira will take Cambiasso's spot, Motta takes Muntari's spot. I'd like to see Zanetti taking Maicon's spot but I don't think it will happen, he will remain in midfield. Stankovic should be rested but what options do Mourinho have? Play Motta there and let Muntari play his LM pos? Or 4-3-3 with Eto'o-Milito-Balotelli, with Zanetti-Vieira-Motta behind? Also it would be nice to see Krhin play a bit more than just 15mins from the end. He has some stature and he has looked like a guy who isn't afraid of the contact, but is also pretty good with his feet.

Hard to predict the lineup, but I think we'll get some rumors tomorrow afternoon at the latest.

I hope Mou rests Maicon,Cambi for this one...I wouldnt mind seeing Viera and Krhin from the start to tell you the truth.I could care less for Livorno,if our bench cant beat them than they dont deserve to be on our bench.I am saying this eventhoughI know they have been doing well lately.JZ can take that RB or LB depending on where we wanna use Santon.

I would also eventually make Q and Mancini earn their paycheck by putting them in the game after some time and resting important players.

We were all hoping Santon would get a full 90 mins against Livorno, and that looked a real possibility with Chivu being suspended for this one, but neither of them are there. I can only assume JZ will play as LB which will thankfully open up another space in midfield.



This is what I'm afraid we'll see.

I wouldn't mind seeing Vieira, Krhin, Mancini or Quaresma at some point.

I know its maybe placing Javier Zanetti a little out-of-place but with no Chivu or Santon in the convocati we look a little bit bare on the left-hand-side and Pupi is extremely versatile. I would start with the same forward line as against Palermo because they were awesome in the first against Palermo, although I would only go with Eto'o and Mario if they're 100%. All going well I'd like to see a run-out in the second half for Cordoba, to build his confidence back after a couple of rare weak performances, Krhin and Milito.
