I agree that Lautaro would be more suited for a SS role, playing with a proper CF and obviously a proper midfield (at least for the moment).
And it sounds like a paradox, but I still think that the most promising game involving Icardi and Martinez was the bad one against Torino, in which we played with a 3-5-2 (failure) but the two Argentinians had the closest resemblance to a partnership upfront.
In the first half, there were 3-4 interesting exchanges in open spaces that looked like the shape of things to come. Flashes of "Asado boys".
Then it's all about the episodes: Lautaro misses the early and relatively easy chance from Dalbert's cross, Torino scores from a set-piece with a bit of luck and it's the perfect situation for their rugby style of football. Spalletti reminds us after the game that starting with two strikers was a one-off because of the absences, and so on.
Hopefully we won't be talking about "what ifs" at the end of the season (but again, we're walking on thin ice).
