Klinsman to coach Germany ?!

Latest reports suggest that Klinsman has been approached to coach Germany for 2006...He is among other candidates ofcourse.

It seems strange to me that Klinsman is a candidate for the job Voller was doing.If they wanted to upgrade,shouldnt they have tried to get someone with experience

I still think they should try to lure Otto at any expense since the German team's talent isnt as abundant as it once was,and i really thought Voller did a good job making them play as a team,especially in the back except they found it hard to score.

However ends up with the job i wish him the best of luck... :star:

As for me,if Otto still doesnt want that job maybe get Matthuaes or Hitzfeld(is he still available?) If not then i wouldnt mind seeing a foreigner like Hiddink..

Hitzfeld refused, and the talk about Klinsman is that he will be assisting somone more experienced. I will go for Hiddink.

Klinsmann set for Germany


Germany job remains unfilled
Jurgen Klinsmann is set to be unveiled as Germany's new coach.
The former World Cup winner has had talks with the German Football Association (DFB) in New York and hinted he is ready to take on the job.

"I was pleased that the DFB accepted my offer to help with a view to preparing for the 2006 World Cup," the former Inter Milan and Tottenham striker said.

"This is the most important sporting event in Germany and I will help irrespective of what the role is."

The 39-year-old, who now lives in California, said he had held a "frank and constructive discussion" with DFB president Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder about the future of the German team.

"I indicated that I was available to participate actively in putting in place new structures. We've decided to continue the talks," he added.

Germany have been looking for a new coach since Klinsmann's former strike partner Rudi Voller quit the role after a disastrous Euro 2004 tournament.

The DFB have also approached veteran coach Holger Osieck, who was part of the Germany set-up at the 1990 World Cup, and he is set to be Klinsmann's assistant.

Oliver Bierhoff, who scored the winning goal for Germany at Euro 1996, is also likely to be part of the new management team.

Bierhoff has not formally been interviewed for any position, but he said: "It is a great step forward that the talks with Jurgen have been positive.

"It's a good choice. Everybody knows I get on well with Jurgen and that I have a close relationship with the DFB and the national team."

Though IMO the first act he should do come the next friendly time is call up Ailton. Sure he isn't German and he wanted to join Qatar but he is a great goal scoring machine. Some Germany is definately lacking.

Man!!! I used to think i was the only non-german german NT fan, but i guess i am not.

Before loving inter and italy i used to follow Germany and support them. The game against Holland in WC90 made me love them. I think that was one of the earliest soccer matches i've seen but i loved it, specially the Voeller-Rijkard incident.

I used to have their shirts when i was young and people thought i was weird when i told them i loved Germany. I hope they do well in WC2006, they have a good young defensive and midfield core. They have to find good strikers fast, either by naturalization or by digging deeper onto their league.

From what i can remember ever since i started following football, the German squad has never been the most entertaining country to watch from a neutral's point of view. I discovered football without knowing much in the mid 90's, which is when they won the Euro 1996. I remember rooting against them in that final and rooting for Czech Republic, we all know what happened with them.

I may be quite harsh when saying this, but their team as of late have lacked talent and flair. I don't like teams that are just full of workhorses, especially national teams that i have no reason to sympathize for. When i was growing up, they had stars like Bierhoff and Ziege - to put it nicely, i disliked both of them for some unknown reasons. 'Ze' Germans have never been favored by the regular football fan, my guess is their style of play.

Another thing about them is how dirty they play, not that it's naturally a bad thing but they fight for every loose ball and their tackles have left a bad taste on many people's mouth. Their attitude just simply doesn't rub off the right way for everyone.
