I was very frustrated with his miss. He's a good player but we need more goals from someone who plays in his position.

He needs to drastically improve his shooting, and that will take time. Meanwhile, we can't afford to have him playing further in the pitch, too many chances will be unnecessarily wasted.

Spalletti needs to sort this out. I believe he wants Valero to stay where he is right now, and the only other credible option for Mário's current position would be Brozovic, who's a better finisher but also inconsistent.

Always wanted to see him as a RCM in a three man midfield. Currently, he's the best 10 we have; I don't much like Valero or Brozovic in that position.

I agree with some people here, switch to a 4-3-3 and play him as an RCM. He can't play too forward because he can't shoot and I think he gets indecisive with his decision making as well.

40 million euros and he can't score sitters that even the average user of this forum would score.

i mean, if it was just today's mistake i wouldn't be so pissed off about it, but in most cases he can't seem to score for his life.

seriously, spalletti should do something about this. joao mario will never become a great scorer but for fuck's sake, he MUST LEARN to do the basics. jeez.

Very interesting like attacking midfielder, runs a lot, smart movement, good ball control, simple and effective passing.

Only things he has to improve is shooting from distance and finishing, he's terrible at that.

I like how he gives us balance though.

Shooting and finishing is something that takes time to train, Coutinho took a long time.

Patience is the key here. He's doing a lot of right things even in this AM role.

coutinho's shooting skills were always good, he was just too young when he arrived. it's a different case, cause coutinho'c ceiling was high, joao mario will never be a scorer. but i don't see him making a progress. does he even try during training sessions>? does he even realize how poor he is in this?

Am I the only one who thought he was gone for most of the first half? He started tracking back to get the ball in the second half, he was almost as Icardi during the first, except for the 1v1 he missed

Wow, he had only one chance and missed and people here are about to crucify him. Why nobody noted that he was involved in both goals?

He isn't a goalscorer...but that's ok. I don't particularly like what he does in terms of creativity either playing the traditional 10 spot. But he isn't a true 10. But he belongs on the pitch so I'd actually like to see him get a runout at RM instead of candreva.

I think we need JM creativity. And agree I want to see Mario in Candreva position, it is so frustrating a dead end in the right wing. It's sad we don't have real 10 or Nainggolan-like player.

Coutinho's shots were always weak and were always Rolling to go like a back pass, disagreed completely about his ceiling being higher.

you really don't think coutinho's has an overall higher potential? come on, are we seriously discussing this? coutinho has contantly improved his scoring statistics and last year scored 13 goals in 31 matches.

i seriously doubt joao mario can even get close to those numbers.

so some of you really think such a comparison makes sense. if you don't trust the numbers, just watch the goals. mother nature wasn't particularly generous with Yoshi under this point of view.

comparing him to coutinho, that's unfair to him (i mean to joao mario).

only think i ask of him, is not to mess up with sitters like he did yesterday.

I understand that he probably won't be a goal scorer but losing the ball too much is what I don't like about him the most. The only case in which he can be useful is if allowed to play in the last 15 minutes or so.

This is pretty much an old-school thought.

Just watch Burnley play against Liverpool.

Its not that he missed that one "sitter". It is that if he had that chance 10 times he would'nt have even scored a single goal.

If JM is our best AM then we have no AM at the moment.
