Italy had a pretty good game today. They were solid in the first half but lacked that killer edge in the final third of the pitch. Realy disappointing stuff. The second half was a different story as it all became much more open and Ukraine started to grow and look for a winner with some really good shooting from outside the box. Buffon was making incredible saves left right and center and just when you though Italy was going to concede they go one up (albeit through a penalty). Then on a quickly executed counterattack Toni scored a magnificent goal. He also set up Di Natale with a sitter but the Ukranian keeper came up huge.
All in all Italy were a diffeent team from their past three outings and are showing signs of improvement. However there is still some much needed questions to be asked of the squad especially in terms of creativity in going forward and playing the ball to player in space. Movement of the ball was also very lacklustre in the first half.
With Scotland beating France today I think Italy can still top their group if they win away to georgia but also take both games from the Scottish, something that is much easier said than done.
