1980s team cannot have Zoff. He played like 3-4 seasons and was like 39 already in 1980
Walter Zenga deserves that spot. Only rivals are Galli and Tancredi really... Zoff? Come on! 70s #1 but not an 80s guy.

Laudrup is one of my favorite players ever but his Juventus stint was rather bad. And I'm not talking about his standards. It was objectively mediocre. He couldn't cut it properly.
Giannini is the name you want to see here. Antognoni could have been it but most of his career was 70s and didn't play enough in the 80s.

Back 4 is solid, only thing with no objections.

Rijkaard is an absurd name there. Hardly played 1 season in the 80s... Has to be Falcao there.

Van Basten another ridiculous entry with hardly 2.5 seasons in the decade.
Striker role with Maradona and Platini behind them is probably our Altobelli.
Some players like Roberto Baggio, Boniek and Costacurta deserve a shout, even Roberto Mancini who peaked in the 90s.
Rummenigge deserves the spot more than Van Basten, but still hasn't played enough.

Zenga or Zoff is a hard choice. Zoff captained Italy 1982 and was keeper of the year ... But then it's a Serie A team ... Zenga was part of an Inter team that didn't win something until 1989.

And Van Basten maybe didn't play enough games in the 80s, but Rummenigge played as many games as him and won nothing with Inter. I prefer Vialli.

And Ronaldo in the 90s even played less games than Van Basten and Rummenigge of them.

Yeah I was gonna dive into 90s and 00s but didn't have much time.

I don't like the decade teams. I also find that the football cycle is closer to the midpoint of the decade as a starting point.

Say 60s, you leave Real Madrid out, but if it's 1955-65 you have to include Real Madrid there with Inter and Benfica being the other two main teams.

Late 70s and early 80s are effectively the same era, yet early 80s and late 80s are completely different.
Late 80s to mid 90s, also same era. But late 90s is a completely different animal, early post-Bosman years.

So I either like to do decade teams with a midpoint cutoff period, or simply split them into two.

Over the weekend I'll probably find some time to create a thread in another section on this and we can waste our summer free time on discussing these things

P.S. I think van Basten has like 50 caps in Serie A in the 80s and Rummenigge has over 65. And Van Basten's contribution in the 1988 Scudetto was minimal, Napoli goal aside.

I didn't see or catch Lothar Matthaus in his prime, but just viewing highlights, he's just next level, without a doubt one of the greatest midfielders in football history.

even if not, Serie A and Serie B clubs need to step into this century already. If they truly build this stadium before 2026, I'll go to watch a game there.

So far i predict, Inter, Napoli and Milan for top three, I hope Roma and Lazio can battle it out for fourth, Atalanta and Fiorentina following and Juve stuck midtable, also losing their derby to Torino

I think since Rube have been banned from Europe, they will have less matches for this season and it would be easy for them to focus on the league only.

They will also suffer heavy financial and reputational losses, which will make their transfer campaign more difficult, so this is good news anyway

Stupid question: So far only the kick-off times of our first 4 games are confirmed.

How big are the chances that not only the kick-off times but also dates of the following games change (from Sunday to Saturday)?

Some of that will depend on how the CL draw and scheduling shakes out. If we have a Tuesday CL game, our preceding league game will be a Friday or Saturday but definitely not a Sunday, otherwise there's no fixed dates beyond MD4 right now so those are all subject to change. The federation only confirms the dates for a batch of games here and there a few times during the season. If I had to guess, we won't know the fixed dates for the next games after MD4 until sometime around the first international break.

If UEFA really wanted to punish them, it should've been 2 seasons. Conference League is a joke
They wanted to include the stepping down officially from the Super League project and they got that so the euro game ban is only 1 year. It's a fucking disgrace and shows no consistency in UEFA policies. There are no set rules for different violations and everything is always negotiated or "negotiated" case-by-case.

They wouldn't get the punishment if they were in the champions league. Conference league is a useless competition and no one cares about that at the end of the day.
