When you have to rely on el shaarawy, cristante and berardi in 2023, your youth development is embarrassing. But we all know that, Italy is totally fucked. Maybe it’s because spalo uses wingers and this gen of Italians just aren’t there compared to the top dogs of Europe, and maybe Conte would’ve been a better appointment given the current crop of Italian players..who knows. I’m just not convinced Italy will keep up with the historical countries anymore. Euro win and all. Hope I’m wrong.

Odd choice to include Berardi on that list, considering he might be the best Italian player active at the moment.

The squad isn't good, but it's still good enough. International football teams are worse than club teams by a far margin. If Italy ever manages to qualify for a tournament again (      ) they'll be an immediate favorite to win it.

I was also reflecting about this some day ago. Its very sad. Italy was always a hard opponent for everyone, with Brazil Germany and some times also France it was always a close match when this teams faced each other. Now appart from France everyone sucks. And Italy is the worst team probably. Even teams like Netherland are considered stronger tbh, at least you know they will qualify. A team that is always at risk of not qualifying for a tournament can't be considered decent, it's just sad how low this team is going.

Man Mancini really struck gold with getting the last of the elder generation (Bonucci, Chellini) and good form from Chiesa, Spinazzola, Jorginho, Barella, Verratti, Donnarumma at the right time. As well as playing off the shame from not qualifying for the previous World Cup for team unity, only then to fail to qualify for the subsequent World Cup…

Italy lacks identity, and most importantly, the right players to play Spalletti’s football. Spalletti will need to adapt more than the other way around.

Attack:
Where is Baldanzi and Vignato from the italian youth squads, they should be intergrated while players like Sottil and Cancellieri need a chance on the wings

Midfield:
Casadei and maybe even fabbian need to be intergrated and players like Ricci deserves a call up, maybe maggiore, no more cristante

Defense:
needs to be younger period, Bastoni and Scalvini need to be starting duo

I just realized it's possible the back 4 are all Inter's. Darmian-Acerbi-Bastoni-Dimarco. If someone would tell me this years ago i would say he is crazy

Job done. Good job by Spalletti, it's always hard to take over without any friendlies. Hope italy will do fairly well.
